@georgeob1,
I do agree Disneyland is nice too but what is more realistic Norway or Disneyland?
Thanks for your view points!

@georgeob1,
We're not talking about "good" wine. We paid $14/glass on the Hurtigruten ship, and somebody commented it was one grade above cool aide. It wasn't even half a glass of what we normally see everywhere else.

I know; nobody said we were forced to buy that "stuff."

What I observed were many contradictions; if their average income is $60,000 at those tax rates, why are so many in Norway able to frequent all those bars and restaurants? Most were crowded every day in the Bryggen Wharf area of Bergen.

I'm not sure, if those $60,000 are correct.

Nevertheless - the income is a lot higher in Norway as it is elsewhere in Europe. And due to this high income (= high wages), Norway is one of the most expensive countries in Europe.

@Walter Hinteler,
The CIA World Factbook shows $59,100 for Norway. I'm sure there are various numbers for the same country depending on who and how they measured their income.

Gosh ! Could Michael Moore have left out part of the story ? I'm quite sure the people of Stavanger didn't look much like those he left behind in Flint Michigan. Worse, they drink bad wine with gusto.

My wife & I are off to Berlin next week, I'll let you know what a good meal & wine costs there.

For Americans, a couple of tips: you'd better read the small print and see if meals are included. We were stunned to find we had only 1 lunch included, with cost for lunch in dining room over $50 per person. Our package, it turns out, was only for half-board, and according to staff, this is only an option--so it's possible if you're not checking closely you could book a cruise with no meals!!! Lunch was no big deal--we were always able to find a place on shore, and it was fun to try authentic dishes like reindeer and cod tongues (unlike our chicken "fingers" a cod's tongue is exactly what it says it is) in local restaurants.

@RABEL222,
What do you mean by "big name?"

The last one was at Sam's Chowder House in Half Moon Bay with our social circle friends for our annual White Elephant Party over one month ago. They're the top five in "best sandwiches in the US."

What government school system?

The government school system that fails to teach it's students American history and basic economics.
The government school system that tells students that F is for Fantastic instead of failure.
The government school system that puts the demands of teachers unions above the needs of students.

@H2O MAN,
H20 Man can you be intellectually honest with yourself? I am not asking you to be honest with me but rather, "be honest with yourself!

Have you ever studied other point of views other than what you agree with!

Please do not respond as this is a question for yourself to think about and there is no right or wrong answer to it!

@RABEL222,
Yes, I took my wife to Alexander's Steak House in Cupertino once; they were over-priced for what we ate. It's easy to spend $150 per person there. We usually go to Black Angus for our steaks for the special Wednesday and coupon deals, and it's not that far from where we live. Our son usually joins us when we go there.

I also like to cruise with Oceania Cruise Line for the food. Jacques Pépin is their head chef, and their food is first class. I've been on six cruises with them, and already booked for my seventh for next January which is a wine cruise like the last one last January. I always look forward to their Italian restaurant for the most delicious osso bucco at least once during the cruise.

@RABEL222,
Did you know I have a travel blog? I already have over 1,000 hits this month. If you're interested, I can post the URL; it has most of my trips, but not all. I've been lax lately, because it's getting difficult to find my picture albums and/or pictures of those trips, and I've forgotten where I took all the pictures.

@reasoning logic,
Sounds like you (rl) are having a problem understanding the basic facts of the situation and wish to blame others for your lack of abilities.

It sounds like your liberal mind set is not so solid... this is a good sign.

@H2O MAN,
There is no government school system.

What about the fuckingly stupid parents who shouldn't even think about conceiving who have kids? The right is against abortion but there are far too many young women out there who not only should have abortions but should have their tubes tied at 14.

Both environment and heredity are against them and their kids. Gammas produce gammas.

The only government school system consists of the schools in foreign nations meant to educate the children of American soldiers stationed abroad.

The federal government does not run local schools nor does it maintain a school system or individual schools within the US, unless you want to count the military academies.
