I have recognized the fact that Obama has connections and friendships with Marxists.

You know, the Marxists that are under okies bed . . . the one that the nurse gets rid of every night by running a broom under the same bed before she gives okie his sedative. Because the Marxists are under okie's bed, he knows that Obama hangs out with them. Obama is under okie's bed as well.

Since when do politicians launch careers "in" random homes?

@okie,
Yes, the weathermen did fight for a better America as did the members of Radical College, a group at the University of Michigan that left SDS for not being sufficiently radical.

I went to a party tonight at which many of the guests were aging hippies. Nice people. Good conversations. No drinking. No drugs. Good food.

Even college grads have difficulty finding jobs, and when they do find a job, their pay and benefits will not allow them to live the middle class lifestyle of the past
Yep, we have now seen so many people take loans and spend $60-70K on a university degree only to graduate, move back in with mom and dad, and work at McD's that we are starting to rethink that conventional wisdom that college is always a good idea. We as a collective are spending way too much for education and 4 years of fun that are not productive. It looks to me that the university system, with there constantly well above inflation cost increases, are one of the next bubbles to burst. Contrary to the Obama message, the right thing to do is to pull back on federal student aid, and redirect it to people who have shown some aptitude for learning. THese kids who want to spend 5 years partying can do it someplace cheaper...

Here, let's focus on the medium and not the message. I would guess hawkeye is one of those demanding a refund.

I rather think that you have no idea what you are talking about. Please elaborate where you think I erred. I was correcting an error. Hint: the error is in quotation marks.

Your jump to ignore the idea rationalized by some perceived individual fault of speaker goes far to explaining why your words are so widely dismissed around here.

@hawkeye10,
Perhaps we have talked to death somewhere on A2K Hawkeye's notion that, at great expense to students and parents, we are producing degree carrying college kids with no marketable skills. Is that a fair summary, Hawk?
You evidently disagree, POM, and immediately make a disparaging comment about him rather then address the opinion he expresses.
Why is that?

Here's a pretty good link on current college grads and employment/unemployment. http://curranoncareers.com/essential-data-colleges-careers/

1) we spend a hell of a lot of money on universities, money that we dont have to waste

2) a great many of those attending do not get much education

3) almost all who attend are under the impression that their university experience entitles them to a good/very good standard of living...an implied and sometimes vocalized promise that we can no longer keep. It is far better to leave a person without hope then it is to instill hope that there is zero chance of coming to fruition. To add insult to injury, we are loading them down with debt that they will have a great difficulty in pay, and often will not. We are minting revolutionaries in our universities, who will at some point be so disillusioned that they will spread the gasoline and light the match...

Obama says that we need to get more young people into the universities, need to find some way to pay for it without any call at all to managing costs (just as with his approach to the broken health care system)...I say that we need to take a hatchet to the university system, cut tax supported grants and loan guaranties by about 40%, and start shrinking the system. THis should be in conjunction with trying to create good paying jobs, and closing down the express lane we give the corporate class to import cheap labor from other countries to take those jobs, so that we have some place for university grads who take advantage of the schools to learn have a place to go suitable to the education level.

@cicerone imposter,
I will have to wade through that, Tak. I am neither agreeing nor disagreeing with Hawkeye at this point. Rather the 1st response to his post, dismissive at best and insulting at worst, was offensive to me.

You hate women, so you a priori dismiss me. Furthermore, I haven't noticed a hawkeye bandwagon but the opposite situation.

@realjohnboy,
Wrong. That was not a disparaging remark but rather a little indicator meant to bring to mind the Biblical story about the man who comments on the particle in the eye of another while ignoring the mountain in his own.

If hawkeye wishes to criticize degree holders -- and nothing in my post said that I disagreed with him, as you stated -- then he needs to present himself well.

Hawkeye assumed superiority, then shot himself in the foot with his poorly worded sentence.

Uh oh, looks like hawkeye has made pom's "hate women list." Good luck with that, hawkeye, if you try to reason with her.

If you found my statement offensive, then you misread it. I find your statement here has left you without support for your own words.
