Interesting to look at taxation as percentage of GDP..

2009 and 2010 have seen government revenues as 14.8 of GDP. Tied for the third lowest taxation/GDP since 1946. Of course one part of that is the result of large government expenditures adding to GDP but one can hardly say we are overtaxed based on historic tax levels.

Since 1946 the tax rates have varied as percent of GDP from 14.2% to 20.3% with all but 9 of those years being over 17% of GDP. Since 1954 there have only been 4 years where taxes have been less than 17% of GDP.

George Soros Wants to Buy America’s Elections
He’s spending Millions Again on his Secretary of State Project
You Can Help.
Dear Friend:
Every Vote Counts. You know that and I know that.
My reason for writing to you is to help ensure that all Americans can be assured that their vote counts – and that the rules for elections are fair for every legal voter in America.

George Soros – a wealthy liberal billionaire has funded organizations like MoveOn.org and other front groups to expand his own political agenda.
His Secretary of State project donated an unheard of amount to select his choice of Secretary of State in Minnesota, Ohio, and other key states across the country.

It’s frightening that one man – with unlimited wealth – has determined to focus his efforts to elect individuals who have the power to overrule the will of voters.

Imagine a country where a majority of Secretary of States are beholden to one man – George Soros.

We must make sure that Soros doesn’t gain this political power.
You can help ensure that by donating to the Republican National Lawyers Association (RNLA), an organization that will be working to counter George Soros’ Secretary of State Project.

In 2006 and 2008, there was not any counter to the Secretary of State project, but for 2010, the RNLA will be there to help fight against Soros’ millions. But they need your help: donate here now.

The RNLA has long stood for open, fair and honest elections and has trained thousands of lawyers on preserving the integrity of the vote. But this task is made more difficult if the chief election official (in most states the Secretary of State) is not interested in fairness or openness but is rather a partisan liberal such as the type George Soros’ Secretary of State project chooses and supports.

Call me old fashioned, but I think a Secretary of State's job is the fair and transparent administration and running of an election. I think the voters, not partisans, nor lawyers or courts should determine who won the election.
And, I sure don’t think George Soros should be given the power to determine who wins or loses elections in the United States.

Help stop partisan Secretaries of State and restore the rule of law for our elections so that all voters, including our military, are treated fairly by DONATING NOW TO THE RNLA.

The RNLA is a recognized leader in promoting open, fair and honest elections. Besides training thousands of lawyers over the last six years, they have also been working tirelessly to call attention to the plight of our military voters that helped result in new federal legislation to help military votes count.

With your help, RNLA can do more to help ensure Secretaries of State keep to their job of running elections in a fair open and honest manner.

Please join me in supporting the RNLA and fighting against those who want our elections run by partisans and George Soros by donating here now.

Sincerely, Senator Norm Coleman

PS: Who wins elections should be determined by who got the most legal votes, period! Unfortunately, the far left is trying to politicize even the counting of votes through George Soros’ Secretary of State project, which seeks to have elections run by hyper-partisan liberal election officials.

Except when the voters ballots are counted legally, then it shouldn't be the voters.

Norm Coleman argued that the law shouldn't be followed when counting ballots and now he pulls this crap?

It's too much, man. Too much hypocrisy. I can't take it. And the funny thing is that Ican probably has no clue what we are talking about at all.

Yaknow, if you don't follow politics closely, the whole thing is a convoluted mess full of lies.... it's easy to see how people get led around by the nose.

This Obama democrat spending spree should come to a screeching halt with the Republicans taking
over control of the house and senate next month. Then the hard work of reducing the size of
government and reducing spending begins... this group that is replacing Obama democrats better do
the right thing and correct all of the mistakes made in the past or they will be replaced ASAP.

The Impetus for the Tea Party Movement is excessive government spending and taxation. Our mission is to attract, educate, organize, and mobilize our fellow citizens to secure public policy consistent with our three core values:
• Constitutionally limited Government
• Fiscal Responsibility
• Free Markets

Specifically We Want:

A. Members of Congress, the President, and Judges of the Courts to abide by strict interpretation of the U.S. Constitution according to the original intent of our founding fathers who adopted it, and according to the original intent of those who adopted each of its amendments;

B. Impeachment and removal from office of all elected and appointed persons who do not comply with their oath or affirmation to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution;

C. Defunded and repealed all Obamacare, all Tarp bills, and all Stimulus bills;

D. Legislation that decreases the size and scope of the Federal Government;

E. Adoption and implementation of only balanced budgets;

F. Prohibition of the re-distribution of wealth by decreasing illegal entitlement programs, by decreasing earmarks, by decreasing non-essential government agencies, by decreasing non- essential government employees, and by decreasing excessive taxation of the wealthy;

G. Continuation of the 2010 tax system until it is completely replaced by a tax system that taxes each dollar value of taxable items at the same rate;

H. Adoption of legislation that allows the U.S. to fully develop and utilize all its sources of energy fuels;

I. Immigration laws that close the borders of the U.S. to illegal immigration, that heavily fine those who hire illegal immigrants, and that support law enforcement of lawful immigration of those who meet currently specified conditions for legal immigration;

J. Prohibition of legislators passing laws that exclude legislators;

K. Lawful elections including lawful and accurate counting of legal ballots.

@H2O MAN,
Also, the impetus for Obama Democrats is to accuse their opposition of what they themselves have done, and are thinking of doing.

The Bushes are war whores. Even their names sugGests it - Bush. The Panama Deception, Gulf war I, Gulf War II. They ruined America's economy and reputation. George Bush, Sr. has the unique threacherous ability to double cross people turning allies into demons after they have lost heir usefulness to him e.g. Manuel Noriega and Saddam Hussein.

@ican711nm,
Obama has not started any war. He inherited the Afghanistan War which GWB should have finished but instead went to raid the oil fields of Iraq. You are just a lover of money.

@parados,
"Taxation" and "Tax Burden" are phrases that probably need some dfefinition. I assume the tax data (% of GDP) you cited were Federal Income tax collections. If so they don't include state income & payroll taxes, Federal social security and medicare taxes (which now have no upper limit) and of course state & local sales & excise taxes. The relative value of all these additional taxes has increased steadily throughout the time period you cited and their amount is enough to very significantly alter your findings.
