I work in a benefits office deep in the heart of picturesque Manchester:

(and it's 'Red Nose' day so we were all dressed down)

Arrived at work and went into the break room - to be met by a table full of danish pastries - 50p each for red nose.

shunned the pastries - but put 50p in and made a cup of tea and ordered a toasted Tea cake. Very Happy

paid £1.00 to have my hair sprayed red and put another £1.00 in for my 'dress down' fee. Smile

asked best friend if I suited red hair - ex-friend said - no! Sad

In a 'Homer Simpson' like danish pastry trance - walked into the gents instead of ladies - to check out my red hair - again! Shocked

met boss having a wee Shocked

got downstairs and my tea cake was cold - ate it anyway, but it was no substitute for a danish. Sad

saw loads and loads of people
made loads and loads of phone calls
sent loads and loads of emails
drank loads and loads of tea

couldn't have a lunch, because of reception cover. Evil or Very Mad

man came in drunk and started shouting abuse at staff, rang police. Evil or Very Mad

man shouted "you give money to smackheads, why don't you give it to pissheads?" he had a point. Confused

by the time THREE police vans came he was already asleep across four chairs. Razz

started to think that maybe job security and a pension, were not worth all this! Crying or Very sad

I keep a box of crayons and paper to entertain children that are brought in by the public. gave them out to a crying child - her mum went home with them (even though i asked her very nicely to return them) Evil or Very Mad

paid £2.00 for a raffle ticket (didn't win) Evil or Very Mad

paid £2.00 to throw an egg at a colleague (that I don't really get on with) and missed! Twisted Evil

consoled myself with a Danish pastry. Rolling Eyes

felt guilty. Embarrassed

4.00p.m. Security Guard has to chase school children, who regularly run in and scatter the leaflets. One of the bigger kids runs back in and shouts at the Guard "go and shag your mother"...Guard shouts back "I'm too busy shagging yours". Shocked

had to have a 'word' with Security Guard regarding his language in the public area. Evil or Very Mad

Security guard throws daggers at me 'till I leave at 5.30. Twisted Evil

cost of day: £5.50
consumed:
1 x Tea cake
1 x Danish Pastry
8 x cups of tea
1 x Werthers original caramel sweetie
smoked: 6 x cigarettes

Thankyou for indulging me...how was yours?

Not half that exciting thus far--or as entertaining! It's only mid-morning, but I doubt anything will measure up to that standard.

Only I'm wondering: What is "Red Nose" day?

Yeah what is red nose day?

Jeepers where do you work? At the very least it does not sound boring. We had archive day today, so we dressed down too. But no one did anything remotely interesting like your place of employment. I am taking advantage of the day to throw all my crap away though.

Just think tomorrow is Saturday!

Comic Relief was set up by comedians and uses comedy and laughter to get serious messages across, as well as making sure that everyone can have some fun at the same time. Over the years, more than 2050 celebrities have given their time and talent to Comic Relief, you name 'em, they've helped us. From Lenny Henry, Billy Connolly, John Cleese and Jerry Springer to Johnny Depp, Ali G, Davina McCall, Robbie Williams, Steve Coogan, Paul Whitehouse, Whoopi Goldberg and Woody Allen. Top comedy teams who've given us a lorry-loads of laughs while helping us raise a lot of cash include the League of Gentlemen, The Fast Show and Smack the Pony.

Red Nose Day
Red Nose Day is a UK-wide fundraising event organised by Comic Relief every two years which culminates in a night of extraordinary comedy and moving documentary films. It's the biggest TV fundraising event in the UK calendar. On Red Nose Day everyone in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is encouraged to cast inhibitions aside, put on a red nose, and do something a little bit silly to raise money - celebrities included. It is an event that unites the entire nation in trying to make a difference to the lives of thousands of individuals facing terrible injustice or living in abject poverty.

Beyond Red Nose Day
Most people know us as the organisation behind Red Nose Day, and have probably done something outrageous to help us raise Red Nose money, but Comic Relief does loads of other stuff, too. From Fair trade to Debt Wish and from Robbie the Reindeer to Robbie Williams, we've got our fingers in loads of pies, so make sure you check out the rest of the site to find out what we get up to.
