What if there were no political parties?

@Lash,

If people could use the internet to talk about their ideas, political platform, and get support, it would be much more democratic than our current oligarchal system.

Bernie showed it can be done. Others can do it. Americans need to disabuse themselves if the idiocy of name recognition and read about the issues and candidates’ plans to address them.

I almost forgot about the power of the internet. The internet can be used as a political platform. The internet can be used for a individual candidate to promote his or her ideas. The internet can be used to make an individual more widely known by going viral. The internet can also be used to reach out to people to help fund their campaign.

@Setanta,
Thank you for the historical references of political parties.
That was very insightful.

@roger,

For starters, we couldn't vote a straight party ticket. Might be good if we actually had to look at the candidates.

That is true.
But, what would be the quality of those choices?
Would they be rich individuals who may not have the average person's interest at heart?
