I would think simply this my friend...

If religion has been studied for the last 2-3000 years or so (guessing on time, but has been around for a long time.), I am sure it will keep going...I believe you make it sound like an innocent question...but I would like to know why you came up with that question?!?!

Threads are not locked they die on their own when people stop posting.
As to this one getting "silly." After the same arguments have been put forward over and over again, a little comic relief is called for.

Man, you just proved my point again...atheists hate free-thinking.

U agree with you, they don't understand what is freethinking and being really free

What made me come up with this thread? Thinking... I think everyone should try it from time to time, it's highly refreshing. (Or it can give you killer headaches, but let's not go there)

If we are a fast evolving race, that grows gradually faster, then in a few decades we won't need to rely on the safety net of religion for our personal comfort.
Christianity, will be obsolete very soon, at least on the more developed countries, as it is, in Europe, more and more people are turning away from the Catholic Church. Of course there is the chance that Christianity will evolve, adapt to our times, but by then it won't really resemble Christianity as we know it at all. (Good thing)
My main problems with this religion is the hypocrisy and the close mindedness, (In every sense of the word) most people are just no ready to "Love your neighbor as you love thyself" yet they can't accept that, and claim to love you while holding your head to the guillotine. Some biblical teachings are pure garbage, while others are ideals to strive for, but that doesn't mean that we've achieved them. I never thought I would say this, but some aspects of Christian teaching are just too advanced for your times, and that's the reason they are butchered most of the time. We are just not ready to love people the way the bible asks us to, we're much to selfish.

Concerning other religions like Islam, Buddhism, and Hinduism; well I think they are going to be around for quite a while, since most practitioners are not advanced enough as a culture to question yet.

By what convoluted thinking did you arrive at the conclusion that religion fosters free thinking. If anything it's purpose is regimentation of thought and action. A ball and chain wired to ones brain.

And the fact that they all walk in lock-step should be a clue. They just can't see themselves marching. Onward christian soldiers,....

I would argue that that is often its effect, rather than its purpose. Its purpose is often to deduce truth, however many people fall short of that ideal.

Anyone who claims to be searching for the "truth"...be that person theist or atheist...is kidding him/herself.

The "truth" is as plain as the nose on anyone's face.

The "truth" is that we do not know the answers to Ultimate Questions...and all this guesswork spouted by both theists and atheists is nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

ANYONE pretending he/she is "searching for the truth"...and who claims theism or atheism...is in deep denial.

Finally the real answer comes out. Frank, your last comment it very true. As long as we are alive we will never know what the answers are to these ultimate questions. Now I am not saying to kill yourself or anything like that but I ONLY THINK that my religion has more answers than most.

Isn't wierd how both sides probably believe with all their hearts that the other is wrong...yet it is not even a matter of opinion?

Evolution is not a matter of "opinion." It is being supported through science.
