I have never seen people rip each other like you guys do. Oh well, VIVA LA MILITARY. If i am in the military and i kill some one on the oposite side, who threatens my freedom and safty, will i go to hell, or will i be given a place amoungst the lords of Valhalla?

I doubt you will go to hell for killing someone. The bible says that murder is a sin(murder is different from other killing)...it really depends on the war. If the war is justified, and both sides have commited to killing each other.

Actually I do, quite a bit. What one sees in one light, when moved into another can yield many answers. Much like a rock that looks normal may flouresce under ultra-violet light to give up its secrets. By taking situations or assumptions outside of their normal context we can see them clearly.

I think the problem with taking things out of context is that you may end up reading something into it, that the author didn't intend...which is bad!
Shocked

I think sleeper's remarks have ended this forum for the most part. Unless there is something to go off of what thunder said.

To go back to the original topic then, it seems my answer would be yes, religion has a place in the future of mankind (unfortunately) and people will keep re-inventing gods to fill all the gaps in their knowledge and their lives.

Re-invent gods?! The only ones who do that are the ones who deny the real god!

Who in your opinion is the "Real God"?
As for whether religion has a place in the future the answer is yes. The poison of religion and all its mischief will unfortunately live as long as man exists on this planet. It is as been so often described the Opiate of mankind. A required fix than seems to have been necessary from the time we emerged from the primordial mists.

Question to you au1929. Why is religion a poison? And I think the "real god" is the god of the christian nation. The 3 or the father, son, and holy spirit.

It is not my opinion, but he is the God that created matter and time, there is only one God, and there is only him and his creation. He is the only one who is not made up by man.

You are entitled to your opinion no matter how wrong headed it is. If there is a God it is the one who created the world as we know it. Not some come lately man generated myth. Religion is divisive, intolerant and thought the ages has been the major cause of wars, massacres, expulsions, genocide and all things unholy. On second thought poison is too mild a word.

I am not sure what point you were making there. I understand religion is divisive; I don't disagree with you. That is why there are catholics and methodist and independents. But there is one common belief that God is the one and only. "ALPHA AND OMEGA, BEGINNING AND END."

From everything I have learned in my life, partly. I can look around at other religions(or theories), and Christianity is different, it is about love and it just makes sense in my mind...will post more later. GTG

Just like science; there's an alpha and omega. However, in science, it must be an "observable body of facts" - not blind conjecture.

In reading the comments of the initiated or thoroughly brain washed. On thing come through loud and clear. There is no room for any ones opinion but theirs. That is the intolerance and divisiveness that has been the plague that religion has brought through the ages. Causing the wars, massacres and, etc., from time immemorial. And no doubt will continue to do so till the end of time.

This thread has indeed become a battlefield, and that's not what I intended. I should have known when I posted this question though, very few people have actually bothered to answer anyway.
I've learned my lesson, albeit a bit too late, from now on I'm officially retired from any religious post.

Good luck guys, keep the blood flowing, and away from my carpet. ^^

Eryemil, But most of the posts in this thread is a indirect answer to your question. Maybe, you just can't see it. The people of religion will continue to believe in what they believe, and that says alot about the future of religion for mankind. Our very own Supreme Court is trying to decide whether religious artifacts can be displayed on/near public buildings, and our congress tried to pass laws that would allow it. It all speaks to your topic - believe it not.
