I have eaten firnee before, and I love cardamom and pistachios, so this was a real winner.
Littlek, just order the chicken kabob and pretend it's tofu.
Before there was famine, there was decent cuisine in Ethiopia. Lest we forget, the two neccessities for a fine world cuisine are a palace food tradition and a peasant food tradition. Sadly, often the palace rulers dine in fine style while the peasants starve...
We have a fairly active Ethiopian community in Toronto, and a few decent restaurants. There is a lot of vegetarian stuff, and also some fiery meat dishes. Every meal is served with Injera , a lightly soured yeasted flatbread which is really tasty. Ethiopian food always reminds me of a cross between Indian and Moroccan somehow....worth trying.
I was going to tell you that if you were ever in Boston to go to the Helmand, which many folks consider the best Asian restaurant in the city period (actually, its in Cambridge, not Boston, but the two cities are so intertwined that they ought to be called Bosbridge or Camton ... the problem is that they would never agree on a joint name), but littlek already told you about it.
