Oh, don't stay logged on while you're not available for a game unless you clickthe "I'm Away" option.
Gus, the computer plays it's tiles immediately when you're done with your turn. At the end of it's game it's probably got 24 minutes and 58 seconds on the clock while you're down into the red.

As soon as you place your word down, the computer immediately takes its turn. When you play with a real person, they usually take their time; this extra time allows you to look over the board in a more relaxed manner.
