I'm sorry littlek, I guess that was posting while I was writing my post. I didn't mean to put my nose where it shouldn't be.

Whenever you do get a new baby, that baby will be blessed to have you as his/her new mommy!

I love that photograph, k. She is such a noble looking creature. Just beautiful! I love her, too. Very Happy

And I know what you mean about taking a break from pets after this .... I plan to do exactly the same. Never before has it been such an ongoing day to day struggle to keep my cat (Flatty) on the acceptable side of healthy. I've had to watch him like a hawk, put any trips (even quite short ones) away from home on hold, say nothing of spending a small fortune on his health care. Maintaining his health has been a big commitment. Almost a fulltime job. So I can sympathize with you & understand where you're coming from.

Of course, I know this won't be my last critter, either. Very Happy

I remember when my dog was deaf & blind and could longer greet me at the door ... he just adapted ... and got great kicks out of being tossled or just picked up and held. Catching frisbees is vastly overrated compared with one-on-one time with the master (mistress!)

Great pic ... Pass the Coppertone, please ... Boots seems to be astutely appreciating the lack of snow cover on a sunny January day ...

We could all take a lesson from their stoicism as we piss & moan about the tiny problems that pester us.

Bootsie is definitely a beauty.

And I understand the thing about taking a break. We are -- it just got too hard to have 'em. Doesn't mean we love animals any less. A colleague of mine brought in his dog yesterday and Milo (the dog, not the colleague) was very kissy and waggly and I had a great time with him, but no one is home enough for a dog, I'm allergic to cats, and we don't want an exotic or fish or whatever.

But when we retire ....

jespah,

If you are allergic to cats, you might try a Persian. For some reason, those allergic to cats are much more tolerant of Persians.

Nope, I'm really, really allergic. As in hives, closed throat, etc. And I'm not a fan of cats anyway.

Ooops! No Persians for you then! Love that doggy avatar. My grandmother had one just like it named Ladybug.

And I forgive you for not being a fan of cats. Very Happy

Momma, I wasn't peeved.... just terse. It's a bad habit, sometimes, especially online.

MsOlga, do you find that Flatty and you have a stronger bond now?

Whooda - good to see you! Yes, she is quite stoic. She doesn't whine about pain, about being dragged around, by being climbed over by the kids or sat on by the cat. But, she does whine when I leave her alone. She has become very emotionally needy. Unfortunately, I sometimes get impatient with the whining. Then I feel guilty. Sigh.

Jes - yes, definitely in retirement. Although.... I've often heard retirees decline animal companions because they are afraid the animals will outlive them.

A stronger bond, k? I would describe it as something akin to co-dependence!: I'm OK when he's OK. When he's quite sick (again) I fret, the vet frets & we're all anxious until Flats returns to an even keel. It's a bit like being on a bumpy seesaw. <sigh>

(I just looked at the first post, 10 a year ago so 11 now.)

Wow, she does LOOK amazing for 11. I know she has a ton of health problems, but her coat is nice and clean and shiny, etc. You can tell she's doted upon.

MsOlga - but, what about when he's healthy? Is he more affectionate with you than he was? I feel like Screech has become much more doting on ME than he used to be.....

Soz, her coat is actually bleaching out - something to do with the thyroid issue (I think). She looks slim because she's lost lots of muscle mass (mostly), but she does look good given the circumstances.

Thanks Vivien! She is.

RP - good luck to you with that plan!

He's always been an extremely trusting critter with me, k. But then, he was rescued (when in frightful condition) by my ex. (then I did all the necessary follow-up work!) He's not really 100% that much of the time any more. Sad But yes, he is very affectionate. Even straight after I've had to shove another of those unwelcome pills down his throat! He really is an extremely forgiving & loyal critter. Very Happy

Here's another shot, same yard, one week (or so) later - catching snowballs!
