There are a couple of pix of Boots in my slideshow screensaver.

That dog's a smile inducer.

~~~~~~
I'm very proud of my little girldog. She's finally learning how to behave properly with other dogs (as long as their noses aren't jammed up her butt). When we went to the hamburgers, we went up to my best friend's farm a couple of times. They've got two BIG rescue dogs as well as a couple of rescue horses - and a buncha fancy cats - on their acreage.
The first day we went out, the farm dogs were all over my car when we arrived (there are muddy paw prints on the windows as well as the doors of the car). Set got out to say hey, then I did, then Bailey. Then I turned to bring Cleo out. She'd climbed back into the back seat of the car and looked like she was just going to sit there and wait for us all.
I finally convinced her to take a look - which she did from the safety of the space between the passenger seat and the door frame.
Then she got out and carefully ignored the giant dogs for about half an hour. We all went for a long walk into the back woods, and as we let one dog at a time off-leash, Cleo adjusted til she was just hangin' with the pack. Not really interacting, but milling with the group and being cool.
She was great about visiting with the horses - didn't bark, just kinda looked and marvelled. We suspect she thought they were just even bigger dogs - and she knows how not to bother with them.
She's come a long way from my first panicked posts on Abuzz about her craziness when she was adopted.
My nephew (2 years) just ask in a very small voice, "where's Booboo?" And he told me he missed her. Then he turned around and did a little dance and went back over to cut more paper.
BBB
When my son moved to Albuquerque, he brought his two huge dogs with him. Megan is a Rhodesian Razor Back and Buddy is a Yellow Lab. They are giants. When I visit my son's home, I have to brace myself against the wall because his dogs are so huge and I'm getting too old to avoid being knocked over.
My Dolly and Madison are teeny dogs. Bichon Maddy weighs about 15 pounds and Japanese Chin Dolly weighs 8 pounds. We introduced Dolly to Meagan at my son's home a couple of months ago and they got along fine. I think Megan assumes Dolly is just a large black and white rat with a big fluffy tail. Dolly is my party girl and gets along well with everyone. We haven't introduce Maddy to the dogs yet. We will probably introduce him to Megan first. Then, one at a time, will introduce both of them to Buddy.
Any one have any suggestions for introducing teeny dogs to huge dogs, both male and females?
Bumble, I was never very good at doggie etiquette!
Ok..... here are some baby photos. I was living in Athens, GA when my boyfriend bought Boo for me. The boyfriend quickly became an ex. The second picture is Boo with Squirrel cat (my current cat's dead sister). In the third picture, she is wrestling with her sister, Maven, while on my lap.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i175/Gigipix/2005_spring_athens_Bootsandmaven.jpg
and then, still in Athens, this is a little speck of Boo in the heavenly Sandy Creek Park dog run #1. I loved that place as much as Boo did. I have loads of pix from that park and more fond memories. Wild rose bushes bloomed in May and wild flowers mixed with grass all summer long. we startled a pair of deer who hopped the fence after we spotted them. They provided a big blue water bowl in which Boo would sink her face up to her eyeballs to slurp after a good long run. After the guy who gave me Boo and I broke up, I was a mess (he is THE bastard ex). Within a few months of the break up, I quit smoking and would run around this dog park (it was huge!) until I thought I was going to barf. I got better and better and felt great. I really think it helped both with quitting the bad relationship and the cigaretts.
This next set is from Cambridge, mostly from my last home. She was a dog always up for whatever came her way. Her first snow, which she experienced on a trip home from GA, didn't daunt her a bit - she just lept into it chest deep and ran like crazy. As she aged, she was a little less inclinded to jump into snow that deep, but she still liked it.
She loved her cats and her cats loved her. My sister has a cat who used to walk underneath Boo - not like walking through a tunnel, but like a shadow. If Boo moved forward, so would the cat, if Boo moved sideways, so would the cat - under Boo's belly. THe whole time she would be rubbing her belly or legs with her head and tail. And, Boo would occasionally squish her down with a paw and lick her head. I don't have pix of that, but I do have pix of her with my cats, here's a couple.
http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i175/Gigipix/2006JANBOOSCREECHBEDSMALL.jpg
And.... I swear the dog had a sense of humor. She loved to share a joke, even if the joke was on her. If I was laughing at or with her, she was happy. People say dogs don't have humor - I think they do. I'm not sure cats do, though they like to have fun.
Oh yes, there was oft a wickedly impish spark in her eyes when she was a pup. I have others I'd like to post, but I need to get my scanner working and scan them up.
He asked several more times where she was...... I dunno if it sank in. I told him that she was some place where he couldn't visit her. He doesn't know what it means to be dead. He kept thinking maybe she was at my parents'.
Here are some more I found worth sharing. They are all from the last year or two - all after she lost the use of her back legs. First, more with the cat. In this first one, she is actually lying on the cat's tail. I helped her to sit up so the cat could remove his tail, but he wasn't interested, so I let her lay back down. When I fell asleep, they were still as they are in this picture.
Boo loved my parents' house on the cape. She liked the extra attention. She liked the extra dog treats, she liked the extra smells (nature!). But, she hated, HATED, my sister's new puppy. The puppy really REALLY wanted to be friends.
Delightful, k.
I love the Boo close-ups (so soulful!) & also the ones with Screech. They look such good mates! Very Happy (Which makes me wonder: How is Screech taking the loss of Bootsie?)
Screech seems a bit lonely. All at once, I have been away from home for long stretches (working in a school) and Boo is gone. When I come home he demands lap time. I am not so sure he misses Boo, but he misses her companionship.
Ah. Sad
It's good you live in a share house, k. Other patting hands. Very Happy
About being away from home so much (work, etc.) & being responsible for a solitary critter: I constantly have to remind myself that adult cats sleep something like 80% of the day! (Amazing!)
Edgar, thanks for stopping by.
MsOgla, I know they do! Amazing buggers. I don't know when he has time to be lonely. Unfortunately, while the new housemate doesn't actively eshew the cat, he isn't very freindly with him. Screech will be happier when Dag gets back.
Ok, two more of me and Boo from the photos my niece took. She's such a good photographer. I want to find some pictures of Boo with the kids. When I find them, I'll post some here.
This spot is Boo's kissing nook. Boxers faces are built such that they are perfect for kissing. Human nose, lips, chin, all mesh nicely with boxer nose, bridge and forehead. If you've never kissed a boxer, you my never know what I am talking about. I bet bella dea knows.
