Well, seeing as how we are questioning the meaning of posts to this deeply meaningful Oz thread: Deb, what does your unregistered car have to do with the meaning of Oz. It's a mystery, I tell you! Confused

Nah no worries Deb. If someone pulls you up for it and checks (and finds it's registered and insured) and then still wants to make an issue of it just ask in very innocent way, "so how long have you got until you get out of your probation then?" Very Happy

On a more serious note. Very, very minor matter. Main thing is it's registered and insured. Just get a duplicate from DOT and you'll be fine. If you can't find your rego papers just make sure you have your driver licence number with you (that's your DOT client number). To make it easier give them a ring at the call centre

Customer Service Centres 13 10 84
Mon-Wed 8am - 6pm, Thurs - Fri 8am-8pm

The call centre people are very helpful and you should be able to sort it out with them.

Well <sigh> I guess you can't talk about the meaning of Oz without mentioning tomorrow's big event: The AFL (Australian Football League) grand final. Tomorrow afternoon you'll be able to walk down deserted streets in Melbourne (obsessed home of AFL football) as just about everyone turns on their television to watch.
The final is always played at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) otherwise known as "the G". Outside, scalpers will be making their fortunes selling tickets to folk desperate to see the game. Melbourne has been invaded by hundreds & hundreds of Eagles supporters (from Western Australia) & also hundreds of Swans supporters from Sydney, though not nearly as many it seems.
To it's shame Embarrassed, Melbourne will not be participating this year, having been out-classed by those interstate interlopers who've taken over "our" leauge & our game. This, dear reader, drives many a Melbournian to despair! (But not moi! )

Anyway, come Sunday morning it will all be over & life will return to normal. Very Happy

Here's what the Eagles & the Swans both be hoping to win tomorrow:

http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2005/09/23/2309parade_fpp5.jpg

Here's the predicted outcome, according to todays AGE vote:

Who will win the flag?

Sydney - 62%

West Coast - 37%

Total Votes: 7725

AND if you're interested, the prime minister's prediction:

Here's the sort of stuff the sports pages of our papers are full of right now. Tomorrow morning will be total saturation!:

There'll be lots of scenes like this at the end of the game, whichever team wins. (These two happen to be Sydney Swans):

Shocked

Ack, it's everywhere!
All over my morning paper!
On my ABC right now! All over the shop fronts.
HELP!
There's no place to escape.

Shocked

(but it's all totally biased: Swans, Swans, Swans, etc, etc, etc ... It's all these Melbournians, ya see, pretending that the Sydney Swans are really still Sth Melbourne. Laughing )

OK, I just know that you're all busting to know the outcome, so I won't keep you in suspense a second longer! :

Big day for the Red and White
September 24, 2005/the AGE

Sydney defied the weight of 72 years of history, logic, a better-credentialled opposition and the critics to win an historic AFL premiership today.

The Swans fought back from a 10-point deficit early in the last quarter to beat West Coast 8.10 (58) to 7.12 (54) in front of 91,898 fans at the MCG.

It will go down as one of the great AFL grand finals and the four-point margin was the tightest since the North Melbourne-Collingwood draw of 1977.

It was also the lowest winning grand final score since Carlton's 7.14 (56) in '68.

But the most important piece of history was the South Melbourne-Sydney club winning its first flag since 1933.... <cont>

And lots more photographs of the action:

And, as always, lots of hugs & warm male bonding moments to celebrate victory. Razz :

New nursery rhyme (unsuitable for Australian children)

Freddie knocks the ball about
Freddie bowls the Aussies out
Champers now, then some beer
Do it all again next year.
