Libby Price (victorian country hour 774) is one of my pin up girls, and I quite like lindy burns she's just a teeny bit naughty sometimes.

Do you get Libby in the city olga?

Anyway, RN was kinda interesting ... ponderous but interesting, hours of it ...... till I became seriously depressed listening to a program about "the dark hour of the soul" (or something like that) in my darkened house in the middle of a terrible heat wave! Shocked You can actually have too much of that sort of super-seriosness, I learnt to my complete surprise!

I listen to RN in the car all the time, except when I turn to local ABC for regional news and politics.

I generally listen to RN if I am listening to radio....unless they are doing those awful radio plays, or it's the Sports Factor.

I like some of those radio plays, Deb!

But seriously, RN is terrific! In a field of it's own with radio production.

But the thing is, it requires concentration, when most of us have the radio on while we're doing any number of other things. And I have a driving compulsion with the political present!

But in summer ... when the %@**! cricket is on local ABC non-stop, I love to hear "the best of" the previous year's productions. Such excellent listening when one has the time to really digest what's being presented.

Indeed we do, dadpad. Drive shift on 774 - Monday to Friday.

I think she's getting more confident now, after the initial shellacking she received for not being Virginia (Trioli - sp?). Who defected to Sydney. (& has now defected to television!) A very hard act to follow.

I don't know about other states & their capital cities, but Melbournians tend to be very, very thingy about our local ABC. Often quite critical, too. Very high listener ratings (Constantly slugging it out with it's main "talk" commercial rival, 3AW.) I'm pretty typical, I guess .... I have 744 on constantly in the house, the car, all the time, really ....

But then I probably listen to radio far more than I watch television (hardly ever), listen to music, or access the internet .... Radio is the best! Very Happy

This turned up in my email this morning:

THE BEST COMEBACK LINE for 2007...
For those that don't know him, Major General Peter Cosgrove is an "Australian treasure!"

General Cosgrove was interviewed on the radio recently. You'll love his
reply to the lady who interviewed him concerning guns and children. Regardless of how you feel about gun laws you gotta love this! This is one of the best comeback lines of all time. It is a portion of an ABC interview between a female broadcaster and General Cosgrove who was about to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military headquarters.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
So, General Cosgrove, what things are you going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
We're going to teach them climbing, canoeing, archery and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Shooting! That's a bit irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see why, they'll be properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
Don't you admit that this is a terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL COSGROVE:
I don't see how. We will be teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER:
But you're equipping them to become violent killers.

GENERAL COSGROVE:
Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be a prostitute, but you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.

Good Friday morning.

Happy Easter break, Oz A2Kers! (& also the rest of you, later! )

There's actually a bit of a chill in the air in Melbourne! Amazing! This is going to take some getting used to!

And I believe it actually rained last night? Incredible!Surprised
(Or spat a bit, maybe?) I heard noises that sounded suspiciously like rain when I awoke during the wee small hours. And the ground looked a little wet when I first went outside this morning. More, Please!

Have a good break all & drive safely, OK?

So, you're going fishing? Or up the bush, perhaps?

Whatever, I hope you've all (in SA) had a reprieve from the ghastly heat!
Horrible! Shocked

Me, I'm off now to wash last night's dishes!

Bye!

Still waiting here for the heat!

Quite cool and rainy - usual bloody awful Easter weather in Kiama, NSW south coast Rolling Eyes

We went to a restaurant about 25km away for lunch, and saw heaps of cops out and about.

Went to Wagga for Easter. HUGE! volume of traffic on the Hume on the way up.

Spent two days enjoying mumpads 25 year college reunion. I had spent some time going out with her at college so I knew a few people but mostly enjoyed myself listening to old war stories (and gathering amunition). A few drinks (nothing has changed in 25 years) and thoroughly enjoyable time were had by all.

Her voice is croaky from allthe chatter and laughter.

Traffic on the way home easter sunday was quite light and the price of fuel had dropped too.

It rained quite heavily in Wagga sat evening but got nothing at home.

Traffic very light around Adelaide despite it being such a glorious day. Tomorrow will be chaotic with thousands of people making their way to Oakband for the annual picnic race meeting, and afterwards merging with the crowds returning home after the long weekend. I know where I will be, home! Smile

National Easter road toll falls slightly
March 25, 2008 - 5:26PM

The national Easter road toll was 23, four less than last year.

NSW roads had their safest Easter since 1949, but high death tolls in Western Australia and Queensland have again thrown the spotlight onto the scourges of drink-driving and speeding.

While Queensland and WA topped the number of deaths, with seven and six respectively, Australia's most populous state recorded its first fatality-free Easter in almost six decades.

Nine people were killed on NSW roads over Easter last year.

NSW Police Minister David Campbell praised NSW drivers and police for keeping the state fatality free from midnight March 19 until midnight on Monday.

"That's the first time since 1949, since road statistics have been kept, and we've had a population that has doubled and there are 13 times more cars on the road since that time so ... it is a good result," Mr Campbell said.

"I offer my congratulations and thanks to drivers of NSW and the police of NSW for a strong effort over the weekend with no deaths on NSW roads."

The ACT also recorded zero road deaths for the holiday period.

While these were welcome figures, authorities on the other side of the continent were appalled at one of WA's highest Easter road tolls on record.

Six people died on WA roads during the long weekend, significantly higher than state's Easter holiday average of just over three.

Sergeant Graham Clifford said the toll equalled the worst recent Easter toll of six deaths in 2000.

"It's among our worst ever performances, so we're disappointed," Sgt Clifford said.

"Five out of six of the deaths were in the country, so that's disturbing."

Four of the six deaths appeared to be due to driver error, he said.

Sgt Clifford said alcohol was involved in the death on Monday night of a 14-year-old boy who was killed in a crash at Northam, 100km east of Perth.

The boy's 38-year-old mother, who was driving her son and his 12-year-old sister, lost control while negotiating a corner.

She later allegedly blew a positive alcohol reading.

In Queensland, Premier Anna Bligh said police were at their "wits' end" with motorists' behaviour after her state recorded Australia's worst death toll this Easter.

"It's very disappointing to see seven fatalities on Queensland's roads over Easter," Ms Bligh told reporters.

"We've seen far too many people picked up for speeding, and unfortunately people still continuing to drive under the influence."

Among the other states, Victoria had five road deaths, Tasmania three, and the Northern Territory and South Australia each recorded one fatality.

An Australian tourist was also killed in a New Zealand over the weekend, in an accident on the South Island's west coast.

Christopher Kai Leung Ho, 32, from NSW, died when the car in which he was a passenger crossed into the path of a van on a highway east of Greymouth on Saturday night.

-----------------

On behalf of all NSW and ACT drivers I wish to apologise for letting the side down, we didn't manage to kill anyone this year and we're usually top scorers.

(I hope no one took that seriously, it was really meant as a prayer of thanks. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could achieve a road-death-free Easter all over the country!)

I thought it was amazing that NSW had no road fatalities. What are they doing down there Lezzles?

Qld is now tossing around the idea of double demerit points during the holidays which NSW introduced forever ago.

How does that work?? Sounds rather fascist ... we WILL punish you if you dare drive at a busy time and make us work for our money.

Traffic fatalities are nature's way of saying that evolution is real, and that it continues to operate within the human race.
