How's it going out there, people?

I heard a very small snippet (only on the once, so probably total bollocks) that the Military were possibly to blame for carrying out exercises in the mountains, and chucking whizz bangs at each other. Any more on that?

It all sounds very worrying, I must say. Last I heard they were trying to stop three separate fires from joining up to form a mega fire.

Fingers crossed for those in the vicinity.

@Lordyaswas,
Is anyone there?

Maybe they've all been evacuated....

In actual fact, I'm watching the Australian version of "Who Do You Think You Are?".

It's called "What Do You Think He Did?"

G’day Lordy sport, I was wondering if you could help an old swaggie out by explaining this limey fraze.

"Harwich for the Continent" ...and "Eastbourne for the Incontinent."

It would be grouse if you could come up trumps. Hooroo.

@Tryagain,
It's Harwich for the continent, and Frinton for the incontinent. Ferries sail from Harwich to Holland. Nearby Frinton is something else, with 60% of the population over 60, and huge snobbiness all round.

It's been in the news for all sorts of weird things like banning pubs and chipshops, then allowing them.

@Tryagain,
You can't be serious Try. I don't believe you need an explanation for that.

@Lordyaswas,
Lol! It's a big country. The fires are half the continent away from me. A few hours drive for Msolga. And margo, in in innerish Sydney, is well out of danger. Moony is way too far north.

But methinks things are going very badly.

It's very scary to be in a pattern of humongous fires in Spring!

@Lordyaswas,
Hadn't heard the military story Lord. I have heard that the two fires they've been trying to join together in some sort of backburning ju jitsu around the Bells Line of Road were both deliberately lit, by arsonists.

A childhood friend (from the central coast now) is a volunteer fire fighter. He's in Bilpin today. Praying to the Flying Spaghetti Monster (his wife is just coming out of chemo). Bring on that noodly appendage.

@hingehead,
Just heard it on the BBC News again....a small snippet saying that the Fire Service and the Police have confirmed that the largest fire, near Katoomba, was started by the Military who were up in the Blue Mountains last Wednesday, using explosives.

@Lordyaswas,
Yep, ABC24 talked about it this morning. Not proven but strongly suspected. ADF coopearting with authorities.

A little stupid to be doing explosives training during a fire ban I would have thought.

Yep - the State Mine fire, the biggest of the lot - that joined the other two, was caused by the military. It's still not controlled - but not threatening any lives right now.

The acting head of the defence forces was all over the news this morning apologising for the whole thing. Bit late, though....

There was no fire ban last week when they were exercising with explosives - it didn't come in until the following day. The fire got away because unexploded ordnance on the range made it too dangerous for fire fighters to go in.

Another death yesterday, pilot of water bombing plane.

@margo,
What sort of idiots run the Army training exercises, they should be sacked immediately and made to pay the damages, even if it takes a 100 years. Absolutely no excuse for their actions on that particular day with the adverse weather conditions!

@Dutchy,
Mrs hinge says the fire brigade turned up early but the army wouldn't let them in because of the unexplored ordinance.

I haven't encountered an unexplored ordinance since that time I was arrested round the back of the Neesden Girl Guides hut.

Happy days.

Ordnance, I suppose you mean.

Tho there may be a joke buried deep in there, I'm too idle to dig for it.
