@margo,
Speaking of cricket bats I think the Aussies batted extremely well on the first two days of the 3rd Test Match.

And they give us great interviews.

Heaven consists of an infinite series of back to back Ashes Test Matches covered by Sky Sports.

@spendius,
Yes - they batted themselves into a great position - and now the bloody weather turns!

@margo,

I'm about eight miles from the ground.
It's been bucketing down all morning.
Shame.

One thing I don't miss about Canberra

We don't have Magpies in Cairns. I think kookaburras have their ecological niche. Have willy wagtails and peewees though. And Friar birds. Sun birds. Sulphur crested cockatoos. Rainbow lorikeets. Bucket loads of ibis.

@hingehead,
No Magpies in Cairns? There were lots of Magpies in Townsville when I lived there.

Maybe they're snobby.

I've been following the raging fires on the News

Here.....
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-24575830

I hope all the upside down members among us are OK.

I know the Wabbit and Margo are posting. Hopefully they are nowhere near the Blue Mountains.
Anyone from down under in touch with Msolga? Does she live that way?

Fingers crossed for all of you.

@Lordyaswas,
Olgs is a Melbourne lassie lord, so an 8 hour drive from harm. Margo is deep in sydney, 2 hours from harm and deb is in Adelaide, at least 8 hours in my speeding car from harm. I'm about 36 hours from the fires, but no one cares.

@hingehead,
Just seen it on the news again.....hot weather, tinderbox conditions, bone dry soil....and it's only SPRING!

Glad to hear all are safe and well away, but it's so sad to see so many homes in ruins, and such a beautiful part of the world go up in smoke.
I know nature requires a good burn now and then, but ......

Thanks for the info, hinge. I was worried about you as well, honest.

It's a bit early to be so bloody hot.

I wasn't quite so far from harm last weekend when some clown started a grass fire in the car park at the Aquatic Centre at Olympic Park, burnt out 49 cars.

Probably would have increased speeds all over Olympic Park if it happened 13 years ago.

You just don't think of it happening so close to the city.

Lordy - you have family somewhere this end of the earth, don't you?

@margo,
Yep.

Perth and Tas.

The Tas sis had a bit of a time of it not so long ago and they were worried for their house at one stage, but at the last knockings, the wind changed and then it rained. She reckons Nan was looking down on her.

Glad you're OK, you lot.

@dlowan,
I do care Deb, it breaks my heart to see so many families lose everything in those terrible fires. How on earth do they ever get over this is beyond me, just devastating.
