@margo,
My first year of not entering in to any sweep, I kinda missed it but at least I didn't lose anything.

@Dutchy,
I was sorely tempted, Dutchy. (Thinking you had some serious insider information. Wink )
But I was running late, with no time to stop at a TAB outlet.
Besides, I'm not exactly sure of how to actually place a bet, & I figured that Cup Day might not be exactly the best time for TAB staff to enlighten me ...
Also I wasn't feeling particularly lucky today.
So I gave it a miss.
I'm now mightily relieved that I didn't miss my opportunity of a lifetime to strike it rich! Phew.

Sigh.
Yep, that's Julia Goolia in our nation costume.
(They didn't even get her hair colour right, dammit!)
And yep, that us .. a nation of yodelers & mountain climbers, who like nothing better than to dine on wiener schnitzel, apple strudel & linzer torte.....
Neutral

It's terribly sad, really. Crying or Very sad
I mean, everyone knows who New Zilllanders are (hobbits) & where they live (middle earth) ...
But apparently no one knows who we are & where we live.
We're going to have to do something drastic about this terrible identity problem we have. (Perhaps we should change the name of Oz to something not beginning with "au" ?)

G20 hosts South Korea have dressed a doll made in the likeness of the Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, in traditional Austrian garb. It is one of several dolls produced by the South Koreans in a tribute to world leaders attending the summit.

@msolga,
Well it's easy to criticise Olgs, but how about some helpful suggestions about what she should be wearing?

Traditional Australian female attire like pink trakky daks, crocs, and a boob tube. Anyone else got suggestions?

I know, I know ...
Point taken. Sad
I'm so rarely constructive about these things, hinge, always critical ... (I'm trying to change.)

Actually, I heard a long, long discussion on my local ABC radio this afternoon, along the very lines you are suggesting!
But nothing came close to this! :

Perfect attire for any sheila.. (And so lovely! So distinctively Oz! Very Happy )
I hope others Oz folk can come up with even better for the fellas!

(And perhaps a new name for Oz that in no way resembles any other country? I am so sick of us being confused with Austrians! (not that there's anything the matter with them, mind!)

(But I've gotta go out now. Back later tonight ...)

@msolga,
She needs a one of them campaign hats with the buttons so you can flip one side up .
Then some Snowy River garb. Thatd be cool.

Didnt anyone give a once over for the outfits? or are these Koreans kinda dim? At least they didnt put on wooden shoes AW jeez, they stuck on some crocs, the only people wear crocs anymore are the gay rights folks.

At which time - my horse will probably still be running in this year's race.
I actually placed about $30 worth of bets, and got back around $15.

I've got a TAB account that I opened for last year's race. I've only bet on the two cups, and a couple of league games. Came within 1 point of turning $5 into over $700. Rotten Dragons screwed me.

Drizabone.

Can't think of anything more Aussie.

It is pretty f@cking insulting if you think about it too hard, but we've always been a nation capable of laughing at itself.

You'd think a little more research might have occurred beforehand, yes.
I don't know about "dim". Sloppy, I'd say.
Seriously, some nations might have taken serious offense. (We're kinda used to this sort of thing. Happens all too often. Neutral )
But, by golly, they'd better get it right, next time! Which ever lot hosts the next conference, I mean! Evil or Very Mad
