@dlowan,
Could you tell me a bit about these programs, Deb?

I haven't been watching any television at all & have not a clue about what they're actually about.

@msolga,
I think the ABC is running a series of wonderful programs about Indigenous Australians.

Contact is about the last group of people (all women for some reason) who were living a totally traditional life, and had never seen whites. They were sought out because they were in the drop zone for the 1964 British test rockets being sent up from Woomera, and the contact was recorded. The film looks at how the people involved see that amazing moment now.

Look!!

Bastardy is about a wonderful Aboriginal man, who is a famous actor, looking at his past and his present. He is a truly amazing man. One of the most moving things I have ever seen.

Clarke & Dawe on: Who is Lara Bingle?
(I'm glad they got around to addressing this serious question, because I've been wondering, too.)

@msolga,
Wonderful! I missed it on Thursday!

Olga - how can you possibly be wondering?
She was engaged to the man slated to take over the most important job in the country, when some sort of scandal (photograph-wise) erupted involving some unknown disgraced footballer - from down your way!

Engagement off, $200,000 ring down the loo, but thank heavens, the Pup scored a ton yesterday in New Zealand!

Just where are your priorities, girl??? Shocked

@margo,
I can't believe it myself, but I actually participated in a Lara Bingle discussion the other day!

It was about the ring ethics.

Now, I consider engagement rings to be utterly ridiculous...but, it seems to me that if the engagement is called off and you have been stupid enough to have the damn thing, the woman is ethically obliged to give it back to the fella (or whatever the gender is of the person who gave it).

Apparently legally this is not so..it is a gift.

I was shouted down. The general feeling seemed to be that he must be a rat if the engagement was broken off, and he deserved to lose some money.

I think that is an appalling approach.

However you look at it, flushing it down the loo seems rather futile. Sell the stinking thing and give the money to charity if you must make le grand gesture! But I think the fella deserves as much of his money back as possible.

@msolga,
You're finally understanding the importance of the whole thing! Razz

All right thinking Australians should be concerned about how the Pup is coping. A ton yesterday (100 runs) against the Kiwis means he seems to be bearing up OK. Smile

Lara Bingle - who the bloody hell cares. (you recall she was the bimbo in the "Where the bloody hell are you" ads)

The Bingle Bungle! Laughing

I think when he was a brash young thing, new to the Australian cricket team, he got the nickname of Pup, and it's stuck, even now as Vice Captain.

I heard one of the young players refer to him as Pup the other day - sounds quite odd in someone younger and less experienced than Pup is!
