Or do you not care for their political views ?
It depends who you are talking to/about, same as with anybody.
I don't have "favourite celebrities" to any significant degree, but if an e.g. actor, writer, painter or musician I liked came out with some statement that I strongly disagreed with politically, then that person would go down in my estimation, irrespective of how good they are at their craft. Like Eric Clapton's racist outburst in the 1970s, which still taints him today. Or Morrissey's recent pronouncements about Muslims. I have to admit I still read Kingsley Amis from time to time, but at least these days I can see what an old fascist he was. I never liked Orson Scott Card in the first place, so he's no loss. I was a bit upset about David Mamet. I enjoyed "The Age of Innocence" before finding out that Edith Wharton was a rabid antisemite. It's still a well written novel, but my feelings about it (and her) have altered.
More like my political perspective influences who I even consider a "celebrity".
@hightor,
I tend to have a low opinion of the intelligence of people who worship "celebrities".
@centrox,

You must've read that old Amis essay from the '50s,
Socialism and the Intellectuals — talk about a 180º turn!
@TomFromIsrael,
I don't have any problems with favorite celebrities sharing my political views, because my political views are my own. If a particular celebrity happens to share my political views, I may end up looking at that celebrity more favorably.
Why should celebrity opinion be any better than, for instance, my hairdresser's or favorite waitress?
We certainly do give that Hollywood crowd an elevated power over us, don't we?
@TomFromIsrael,
Not in the fu*cking least!
