Cost of the war: (Source: federal government)
290,000,000 US Population
137,000,000 Us federal tax filers(corporate & indivual
Max. prob. cost $400,000,000,000 $2,920 per tax filer
(Billions) 16.6% of Fed. Budget
Min. prob. cost $200,000,000,000 $1,460 per tax filer
8. 33% of fed budget
$26,000,000,000 Aid (bribe) $190 per tax filer
to Turkey for cooperation) 1.08% of fed. budget
$2,400,000,000,000 $17,518 per tax filer
(trillions) $8,276 per US person
I think we, as a nation, imbued with the idea that govenment and taxes are evil, are not ready or even willing to pay for a war. What we need is a $2,920 war tax to be paid as a surtax by every tax filer. A time payment would be allowed.
To anyone who thinks the war tax is a ridiculous idea, my question is why? Truth is Americans are not willing to suffer or even be inconvienced by the war they want so badly. Besides, such a tax proposal would put a halt to talk of war faster than reinstatng the draft.
And I feel you have vastly underestimated the cost - in $, life, world standing and spirituality.
America is truly at a sad, sad stage in her development.
The worst Presidency, bar none!
Cost of Iraq War
Blatham,
Poster pictures remarkable, thanks.
All the more reason why new resolutions should be enacted. Left to me, I'd immediately relocate Saddam to another galaxy.
When Bush carrying his bags!
Cost of Iraq War
That's a given.
I have seen the great depression,WW2, Korean war, Viet Nam and all the mini wars in between and never had a doubt he The US would prevail. However, this president has instilled in me a feeling of foreboding never felt before. Will we survive as the nation we once were? FDR or Churchill don't remember which said" We have nothing to fear but fear itself" That is the tactic the Bush administration uses to get approval for it's insane policies "Fear"
Of Bush and his merry men? You bet.
Heard that the Government just ordered 250,000 body bags.
It's routine with the Armed services.
I'm willing to pay a "war tax", even if it were twice that estimated above.
I believe that many of our tax dollars are virtually wasted for low priority items, and to feather the nests of Congressional representatives. Why would any American balk at a War Tax of $2,500, while remaining silent about spending on pork barrel projects. I think serious tax reform is way past due, but is as unlikely as campaign spending reform. Those who are in a position to make serious reforms in both parties are the same folks who most benefit by the existing structures. Serious reformers, like McCain, have my respect no matter what their political background. The Federal Budget should be tighter, and the National Debt reduced.
Some things can not be avoided, and the cost of war is one of those things. The cost of war is not calculated in dollars alone, but in blood and suffering. Calculating the cost of war is not just the outlay, but in the results. Victory is almost always a great balancer of books, and the cost of defeat will almost always far outweigh the mere dollars that were spent. The defeated almost always will in retrospect wish that they had spent more, rather than less, of their national treasure.

As of September 19, 2006 @ 7:20 MST, cost of war, in financial terms is ~$315 801 700 000 USD
Fast approaching the "max. probable cost".
Who'd be willing, at this point in time, to pony up for a "war tax".
