This former BBC soap CHARACTER was always a somewhat prickly CHARACTER but has recently turned up in another BBC soap opera transmogrified into an even more evil scratching persona - which CHARACTER.
Is this a riddle? Or a crossword clue? Your description fits a number of possible candidates. Is your all-upper-case rendition of CHARACTER a clue in the riddle?

No, its just a quiz question I cannot fathom out. I highlighted character to distinguish it from actor.

Is it James Willmott-Brown? I googled your question and he turned up. He was in Eastenders last year after previously leaving in 1992.
