Editing now is only available until someone replies to the post. This is similar to the way deleting posts works.

Good idea! I'm all for anything that improves site speed, as it has been sporadically sluggish of late.

Although I was using preview most times, this now forces me to use it all the time. Probably will still miss the occasional typo, but that's life. I'm sure we'll all understand, as we're all in the same boat! Laughing

Actually, since editing is that intensive for the database, why not eliminate the feature altogether?

I already use Preview all the time, Timber. But for some reason theres always stuff I only see when the thing is actually posted. And I dont just mean typos either.

Also, Im always imagining some websurfer coming across the info in my post through Google. Now, if I find that I had some number or quote or fact wrong, I often go back to the post itself and clarify/correct, so that said user will find it all in correct state. Cause I dont think he'll necessarily browse on for five pages to see if someone didnt say, "oh i'm sorry, i got that wrong..."

Very glad about the other changes Craven announced tho.

I bet Beth just knitted that up and took a digital pic of it, just for this reply.

Way to go, Beth! I'm impressed! Laughing

I'm impressed that you recognized that as knitting, Reyn. Not everyone can spot that.

And there's the issue of keeping a certain post updated with future information as well.

The limitations on editing were things I weighed since the first months of A2K and preferred to avoid it for the many ways editing can improve a post.

I'm considering using a wiki system with prior post versions, and that way posts would not have to be reindexed, just flagged as an old edit but that is a very involved process.

Craven, is the absence of the "membership" information permanent or temporary? I miss it.
