New York's a great place for walking, ehBethie (as you've found out). I once walked the length of Broadway and 7th Av. from W. 107th St. to the intersection of Greenwich Av. & 11th in the Village. It was early evening and it was raining. Don't recall how long that took, but, boy was I thirsty by the time I reached Jack Barry's Pub. (Don't bother looking for it, Joe & others -- it closed years ago.)

Wanna hear the vignettes.

We went to Filenne's today, but I got distracted by DSW Shoe Warehouse instead. I need more practical shoes that make me a few inches taller and don't hurt my feet. I found some great bargains.

There were lots of performers in Union Square Park today. But it was a little cold, so we returned home early and made our own supper.

All very ironic, in that "vignette" means "little vine" . . .

Uh huh,

Yes, that is one tiny definition -

Good one................................

Further,

It's a brief word picture.
A small decorative design.
A description of a simple explanation.
or,
A small, concise finish to something complex.

Thanks.

Yes, Danon, i know . . . i was referring to the origin of the word, and the juxtaposition of it with Lola's gardening pictures . . .

The vine is Bernie's. He loves Boston Ivy. Isn't it interesting how gardening for some of us is soothing? Now if we'd just get some warmer weather, we could sit out there and enjoy it. How will the Hibiscus and clematis ever bloom without the heat and sun?

Ironic........yes, very.

According to your sites - the clematis should be at home in the NYC area. However, the first word I came across on the Hibiscus site was TROPICAL.............! Well, go figure!

A suggestion =
Erect a small enclosure around at least a portion of your balcony (I'm sorry, garden) - and condition the air to whatever plants you care to place there.

I'm sure you wouldn't be challenged by the management for having possession of a "Hot House"!!

Clematis will be just fine. My father managed to raise some hibiscus in the harsh climate of New Hampshire at roughly 1300 foot elevation. But it was a struggle, requiring constant vigilance as to weather.

Are you going to be at the Frying Pan Tuesday?

Joe(if Not, why not)Nation

What's the Frying Pan? A comedy place, coffee shop, restaurant or just a hang-out? I'm in Jersey, not a native, so don't call me a Jersey Girl! I hate that moniker, but when I meet one, I have to crack up! The phrase is true, in some cases. The nut case is Nuts! Funny! I loved it! Laughing

The Frying Pan is a bar/outdoor grill/ dance floor/ dock located at the North End of the Chelsea Piers at West 23rd Street. Depending on the night there is something, or nothing, going on. We like to climb up the ladders on the fireboat next door and have a drink and a burger and look out on the Hudson River.

The other night we watched a couple of water taxis practice some kind of emergency move. (Head down river at full speed and perform a sharp turn to port, swing around to a full 180 and then gun it back up river.) Meanwhile overhead the Trump helicopter was cruising back and forth getting it's picture taken by a second helicopter and the local kayak club members set out in an outrigger and the Circleline putted by.

Nobody waved.

Twas, and always is, a bit windy. So bring something to throw on. The Blessing of the Tugboat Fleet is on June 9th starting at five pm. It's an amazing thing to see.

We'll have to be out there for that... We had fun Tuesday. I'm going back to Chelsea Piers to try out some roller blades soon. Some people I know think I'll break something if I get skates. These people want me to buy a bicycle. So I'm going to try out the skates and see how I still do. It hasn't been that long since I was skating. Just a couple of years. Some people think I'm getting old. One of those people may be me. We'll see.

I knew someone would make me laugh about this...... Thank you George and Setanta.

But I think the subject is related somehow to practical shoes.....

Realists every where I look!
