Quote:Arepas are the most typical food in Venezuela. It is an easy food that you can make in only a few minutes. Arepas are made of corn flour (precooked ). In the past, the arepas were made of corn.) To make one single arepa was a lot of work because the people had to wait until the corn was very dry, they they hit the corn, and finally they cooked the corn and made the arepa. It was a lot of work, but the people did it.
Now it is easy to make arepas. We only have to pour the corn flour with some water and salt, mix it together, and then make the form of the arepa with your hands and cook it. This process takes only 10 to 15 minutes. For that reason, the arepa in Venezuela has become the most popular and traditional food. Also, it is a staple because arepas can be eaten with all Venezuelan dishes.
Arepas in Venezuela are like bread in other countries. It is a dish that you can eat anytime, everywhere and with whatever you want. You can find arepas in small restaurants called areperas. If you go to Venezuela, don't miss the opportunity to go there. It is a place where you can eat only arepas, with whatever you want--cheese, jam, meat, chicken, pork, eggs, etc. The most famous is La reina pepiada, an arepa made with chopped meat, avocado and cheese. It is the most traditional arepa.
Also, it is the fashion among young people to go to an areperas after they leave a disco. If you go to an arepera at 2 a.m. on weekends, you will see a lot of well-dressed young people eating arepas.

Ya learn something every day.
Oh yeah. There's a thread for that.
kicky, dasha's glasses looked kind of good on you. At least in the pix, as silly as they are.
.....and I want to try some. Could you send a few out west
kicky?
Yeah, CJ, for you, no problem. For a small fee with a big mark-up for me, of course.
littlek, where is that picture?
Man this site is having one of its aggravatingly slow and shitty nights, isn't it...
the witty repartee was a bit much for one guest on Saturday
Synonymph wrote:Wonderful pictures! And the view from Lola's apartment balcony is stunning. What time of night was that photo taken?
It was about 9:30 or 10 pm, I think. The night was foggy and it was striking. But I wish you could see it tonight. I tried to take a photo of it, but my camera doesn't have the right stuff to capture it at night time.
Hehehehe, wasn't I checking the backwardability of the chair right then? Kicky, did you find the glasses picture?
Way cool photos, ehBeth. Good to see CAV and lk, b and Lola, Dash, Frank, Nancy and everyone. Particularly liked the gnarled tree in Tompkins Square. It would make a great avatar. Can I pinch it?

Isn't that a great chair, k? I'm sitting in it right now....it's where I sit when I'm on the internet, gabbing with you guys.
littlek, no, I didn't find it yet. Actually, I got to doing other things and forgot about it. Is it in Dag's gallery on MSN?
Wonderful photos from everyone. What a TREAT~
Yes, thanks for all the hard work documenting your fun!
Thanks, littlek. Pretty funny.
Thanks Beth! Kicky, I can't remember, did you post your pix yet?
Yeah, they're all in one post about twenty pages back. I only posted the few that were actually worth a damn. The rest were either almost identical to ones that ehbeth had taken, or they just came out lousy.
I'm tired. I think I'm going to go to bed now. Damn, I have felt like a sack of crap all day.
Before I go though...what are you thinking here? funny picture...
I remember that someone reacted to you, I didn't know what you were doing, but assumed you were doing something - so I did that. Hard to explain.
Feel better!
