the bus, the subway, the transit system

7 day card the best way to go?
I dunno, for a walker. We only took the bus twice, I think. Or maybe three. On the other hand, no change worry.
hmm
as near as I can make out, a single fare is $5 (weird website), so if I took a bus once, one-way each day for 5 days, it'd be $25

Serafina's is good. It's on Madison between 78th and 79th (just a block away from my office on 78th.) The atmosphere is very nice, especially on a Spring evening.

The subway is the way to go. Above ground is way slower than underground. And the underground world is very interesting. And it's easy. That's $2.00 one way. So it depends if you think you'll be needing the subway or bus very much.
Single fare is $2. (That $5 is for the express bus, which you won't be taking.) If you buy a pay-per-ride card (as opposed to an unlimited-ride 7-day card) and put at least $10 on it, the ever-generous MTA will credit you with an extra 20%. So if you pay $10, you'll get a card with $12 on it (good for six rides, which means your cost for each ride is actually $1.67). With a pay-per-ride card, you get a free transfer from subway-to-bus, bus-to-subway, or bus-to-bus (but not subway-to-subway -- go figure), if the second ride is within 2 hours of the first. The 2-hour time frame isn't an issue with an unlimited-ride 7-day card because the rides you can take on it are ... well ... unlimited.
There will be a quiz on this in the morning.

Didn't you suggest a general meet at your place on Saturday? Or has my brain gone out of control again?
I did indeed. And our apartment is available for as many as want to meet here any of the days Beth is in town. If we want to have one get together with all of us at once, our place is ideal. Just let me know.
That helps quite a bit, Lola. Thanks.
I'm an underground rat here, so I'll probably do it at least once in New York, just to have used a different subway.
The General recommends taking a couple of buses, simply as a way of seeing different parts of the town that I wouldn't otherwise get to.
I'm thinking a coupla subway rides and a couple bus rides, and a lotta walking.
No pass then.

But of course, you can transfer trains at many stations, as long as you keep going the same way (up or down town.)
and Bree posted while I was back at that bloody website.
I won't pass the quiz. I know that already.
The pay-per-ride would make sense. If I can find someplace to buy it. I spent about half an hour already trying to figure out where to buy the 7 day variant (yes on that day, no on that day, not from a booth, yes from the machine, not on the third thursday of the month, definitely before dinner ... )
The map is simpler than the instructions on where to buy a pass
The M6 is gonna be my bus. <nods>
And your subway station is going to be Union Square. It's nice. You'll like it.
I'm still marvelling at the location.
I'm kinda ending up where I started.
Wanted to find Mario's pizza place. Staying close to it.
I'm really looking forward to this.
A tiny bit anxious. I haven't had a non-business trip on my own in quite a while.
You'll be okay. I have a feeling you're going to just LEERVE it! I hope I get a chance to see you at some point.
Beth, anxious? I wouldn't have ever guessed...... <grin>.
pffft
yes, anxious.
Sure hope you can be there, l'k. Squeedle's really hoping to meet you as well - wants to introduce us to his new family. He's an awfully happy fella these days
