Hmmmm. Walking across the empty naval shipyards in the late November windchills with eighty other people who don't have to work for a living to get beer and chow and a chat about a book.

It better be a really good book.

Hey... I am looking for good audiobooks - the ones I have been listening to are much too serious. Should I punch this guy up?

I very much enjoyed Gary Shteyngart- but I don't know if he's available on audiobook form yet.

Joe, without knowing a thing about your taste in books, other than what I can guess from reading your posts, I'm going to go out on a limb and recommend Christine Falls, a novel by Benjamin Black (who is actually John Banville, who usually writes under his own name but for some reason chose to use a pseudonym for this one). I read it in print, and loved it.

A little change in subject. Bernie and I will be in New York in January. We could come a day or so early, or stay a little late if anyone wanted to have a New York celebration in honor of Thomas who will soon be among us. Anybody want to do that? I would.

Hi there High Seas. I'm sorry I haven't read this thread lately. I see lots more birthday wishes. thanks to all.

I'm as proud to be called Mrs. Bernie as he is to be called Mr. W_______. No kidding, we have received a few junk mailing items addressed in this way. Mr. Lola will do as well.

And to McTag......

And btw the less I hear about Bernie's appendage, the better.

Oh well, it's a very long story anyway.

You guys are very sweet. Bernie and I are content to be very Manhattan in Portland, except we are looking forward to our visit to New York, coming soon.

I wonder if Lola and Bernie wrote their own vows. It would be great to hear what they wrote!

Well Wande, since neither Mr. Lola or Mrs. Bernie are very sentimental (we're too tough for that stuff) we were happy to find a very nice Justice of the Peace who had something to say about love and friendship and all that stuff. We do have a video. It's really sappy.

I'm sorry we didn't keep everybody informed very well about the wedding and move and all, we just got overwhelmed.........Bernie says I have TOO MUCH STUFF! And he wasn't smiling when he said it. Oh well, he knew that before he married me.

I'm only now ( Embarrassed ) sorting, arranging and burning the 1,800 photos I made during my last USA-trip.

I would really like to come even in the worst weather but unfortunately ... Crying or Very sad

My meetings begin on Sunday, January 13 and last through January 20 (Saturday). So the Friday or Saturday before, that's January 11 or 12th or after, Saturday January 20, in the evening.....or Sunday January 21. We might also be able to get together on one of the week nights after 5 or so.

It would be lovely to see you.

I never miss celebrations in honor of myself. Count me in!

(For those of you who don't read my Iselin thread: I've landed a new job in Iselin, New Jersey, an hour from New York by commuter train . My first day of work will be Monday December 12. But I'll arrive at JFK airport on December 2 so I have some time to look for apartments, find a car, and similar things.)
