Supposedly if one navigates this website:

www.chowhound.com

One finds excellent meals for reasonable prices. The Chowhounds consider themselves more up-to-date and less trendy than Zabats.

I found another great website for you, ehBeth. It's a place in midtown that I think you might want to visit.

Saved the NYC chowhounds page to favourites, Noddy. Thanks for the lead.

Errrrrrrr, that's ok, kicky. I'm looking to add ink, not remove it.

He he he...are you a punk rocker? I just found out that the New York Dolls are playing on April 28 and 29. And I think they're playing at a place that is right in the neighborhood where you are staying.

They're like, ancient! Didn't they break up in the early/mid 1970's? I know I always get confused about the Dolls. I mixed 'em up with The Battered Brides once.

I don't have a clue. All I know is there a famous NYC punk band. That's the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Just throwing it out there for your consideration. There's a full-page ad for their concerts in the Village Voice.

I used to love the glam-rock boys.
Definitely a think about.

I was surprised that there was anything left of them.

Frutti de Mare restaurant. 4th st at 2nd ave. Fantastic Italian seafood joint. And cheap.

For great Indian food in the same neighborhood try Gulshan at 104 2nd ave.
The last time I was there they had live sitar players sitting in the window. And 3 alarm vindaloo.

For late nights you can't beat the Kiev.
Cafe Kiev 117 2nd ave.

Do you notice a trend here?
I guess I just love 2nd ave.

that would be the one.

Also in that neighborhood is a deli that serves Taylor ham and French toast made with challah bread.
Possibly the most delicious thing I've ever eaten.
The name escapes me, but I'll work on it.

I updated that last post with addies.

J2 sounds like a winner.

I have a tremendous craving for a Monte Cristo right now.

this is going to make things sooooo much easier
(or at least some of it - it won't help with the cravings)

When you've had your fun, and your work is done, you must not
Succumb
I can feel you breathe, it's like a mega-weedge inside,
Please don't hide

So mom, if you please, pass me the pork roll egg and cheese
If you please, on a kaiser bun
Mom, if you please, pass me the pork roll egg and cheese
If you please, on a kaiser bun

When the guava's drained, eddie dingle remains
But we must further ourselves on
So dynamic is life, staring into the sight's
Not right, but wrong in a good way

So mom, if you please, pass me the pork roll egg and cheese
If you please, on a kaiser bun

If you please, on a kaiser bun

oh, if you want polish or ukrainian delis, you stick to me, lady. i've been to every single one of them. as far as jewish delis go, i think katz's deli is still unparalelled. kiev is outstanding, too, but not for its sandwiches. for pirogis and borshch and stuff. it's all around the 1st and 2nd ave and in alphabet city - my favorite parts of manhattan anyway.

J2 is just another deli, you may as well go to any Pick a Bagel in the city, but KATZ's is ..

.. we have to go to Katz's... get our tickets.... order the whitefish salad...get a nice veggie tuna... not.!... .. Look at the size of that MENU...!!! .... we'll get some nice, pink Nova and some creamy cream cheese... we'll get the plattah... hope they put some Frank on the sound system or maybe some Barbaruh, omigawd !!!!and a knish..... a potato knish....so fresh you can taste the Maine air, the potatoey Maine air...What's that? .. . Did you order that? The kugel? You ordered the kugel AND a knish, what ? Are you carbo loading?? Let me have some...... yum..What am I eating?... oh, it's nothing... it's just the roast (beef) on rye with a smear of mustard and a slice of red onion.... I've been eating it here since 1967... it never changes...how is that possible?,,, WHAT'S that??.. yes YES IT IS NOISY>>>>> WHAT??? ,,,.... no, I don't care, pass the napkins... Don't lose your ticket...they charge you fifty dollahs....they do it, they do.... my cousin from Astoria had to have her father come into the city to pay the bill... that's what she said but she was with some sailors and.... have you tried the chocolate cake? or the pie? ,.....do you want an egg creme???? Order the chocolate... I want a Diet Coke and don't mind the way the counter guy looks at you......

I'm over here holding three tables for the bunch....who's got my roast on rye???
