While in Pennsylvania, will you be near the Poconos?

Don't know yet. It's a foreign country out there....I'll buy a map tomorrow in town. I'm going to meet a friend who lives not too far from Scranton.

I will be in NYC for a few days from 6th November, on vacation, and it would be nice if some of the old lags here would show their faces, meet up maybe.

I'm thinking, something like "On The Town". I'm packing my white suit. Cool

On the other hand, I could just walk round by myself....

...and talk to the taxi drivers and newspaper vendors. Or ar they all Korean and automatic?

Hamburger is right. You'll probably be driving through the Poconos on your way to Scranton.

Well good. I'm headed for a place called Tunkhannock. Should I be aware of something else? Is that near you?

Tunkhunnock is 120-140 miles away. I'm between Scranton and NYC and Tunkhannock is west of Scranton.

I came back and turned on the furnace.

Apparently I'd forgotten to tell Setanta where the on-switch for it was Confused I really didn't expect it to get that cold.

There's still quite a bit of trouble in the northern suburbs of Buffalo. 190,000 still without power, schools are closed for the week, general disruption.

The snow is mostly melted, which has caused the problem of flooding from rapid run-off.

The big evidence of the storm for my little car was the sand on top of the car!

After breakfast at Cafe Mozart yesterday, a couple of the foodies checked out a perfect tiny co-op apartment on the Upper West Side, visited St. John the Divine and its sculpture garden, and walked through Central Park - pausing for a rock cello concert in the park that was phenomenal, a couple of other good but not phenomenal musicians/groups, and an extraordinary performance of Faust (I'm hoping the pix of that tiny troupe come out well). I then went on the The Great Read in Bryant Park - the highlight of which was almost literally running into Julie Andrews as she was on her way to a reading on the Children's Stage. Interesting readings, coupla fun concerts and chocolate sampling by Ghiardelli. Thennnnn, I zoomed across and up to the Upper East Side to pop in on blatham at the shop. Took an interesting photo or two of the gateman at work. We wandered over to the site of the plane crash and gawked along with the small crowd, then back to the home of Lotham, and after Lola and two of her lovely daughters arrived, we went to an Italian restaurant for a meal.

I was surprisingly  tired when I got back to the Seafarer's at the end of that adventure.

My gawd, girl, you covered virtually all of Manhattan in one day!! (The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is one of the best-kept secrets in the city. For some reason, tourists hardly ever hear of it and it's sooo much more interesting than St. Patrick's on 5th Avenue. I used to live around the corner from St. John's, on W. 107th St., and didn't know the place existed until I came back to visit years later!)

MA, I like to wring every ounce of entertainment out of every second I can get in New York. Four days of adventuring seems to be my current limit - but I'm working on increasing it Very Happy

The best chocolates I've ever experienced ...

They're sold the day they're made - nothing mass-produced. Extraordinary.

This is Lola.......thoroughly hugged and well wished. All of this hugging helped since I am now officially 60 years old! It's hard to believe.

My visiting daughter from Texas and I walked from Columbus Circle through the park, down Madison Ave and then 78th Street home to find Bernie and Beth on the balcony. It was a lovely day yesterday.......as it was all week end long. Lucky Beth! Dinner was delicious. The food and company was excellent. Bernie especially enjoyed being the only man at the table with 4 lovely women. We all tasted each other's food. Except Bernie wouldn't taste Beth calamari. But I did.

Beth saw Julie Andrews, and I ran into Beth at Filene's Basement (which will soon be re-named "Macy's") Perfect place for Beth and I to run into each other. We both had a prized bargain find in our hot little hands.

They were filming a new comedy, a Helen Hunt production on our street (78th between 2nd and 3rd). When Jeanne (my oldest daughter) and I walked by we saw Bette Midler and Helen Hunt. We watched as they filmed Helen H walking down the street, past a small book store to the front of a row of red bricked town houses. We watched her walk down that street at least 7 times before we went on our way. Then later Jeanne and I went down to the East Village where my middle daughter lives and works. She's working at a well known music/video store on St. Marks Place. As we headed toward the subway, we saw Bonnie Raitt wearing a big cowboy hat and talking to two cowboy hatted men. They were standing on the street corner chatting. That's a record for celebrity sightings in one day for me. Actually, I rarely see celebrities around here. So that was 4 in one day...........Bette, Beth, Bonnie and Helen.

McTag........can't wait for your arrival. I'm sure we'll do the town several times before you move on to Pennsylvania. This time I'll be the only woman with a bunch of gorgeous men. Lucky me. Of course, any women who would like to join us are welcome......

The plane crash was scary until we found out it was a tragic accident. We don't need any more terrorists around here. We can see the building with it's big black spot and broken windows from our balcony.

It was a great week end and thanks for the birthday wishes.

Thanks for the hugs everyone. And Noddy, I got your birthday card. I was having little gasps of joy all day. (You have to have seen the card.)

Miss you guys......... wish I had more time to hand out these days.

As Marlon Brando said in not too dissimilar circumstances in "Mutiny on the Bounty",

"I'll do my best, Sir."

This is most gratifying and really nice.

I have bought two new jackets now (maybe you call them topcoats or something) and I can't decide which one to wear.

howdy from 44th and 2nd. I swooped into town for a Board meeting, swooping right out this morning. but here i am, in nyc, and that's what counts.
we ate ourselves into oblivion at Yuva - Indian restaurant- last night. i used all the three and a half hindi phrases i know so far and that resulted in free dish and dessert. i nearly died of gluttony.
