Okay, I'll sell the wampum then...are you going to go hat shopping?
I'm definitely flying into New York on April 27th.
Oh dear. Hats. I already have the most marvellous insultable hat picked out
The only thing really left to do ... is get a pedicure. <grin>
Oy...always with the pedicures..you know, you should go to one of these places here when you're here and get one. Those damn nail salon-type joints are all over the place.
I'm looking forward to seeing the hat. So how many hats do you actually have, ehbeth?
Hmmmm...it's been twelve hours and still no answer...
I fell asleep counting hats.
There are five hat boxes in my bedroom. There are 2 or 3 hats in each hatbox. There are also 2 or 3 hats on a bust of Coquelicot in the bedroom. Then there are hat boxes in the middle bedroom and in the hall, plus hats on the dressmaker's Judy in the back bedroom, and on the racks in the living room and kitchen.
I have a lot of hats.
ok - so how is this in terms of neighbourhoods
Quote:Located just east of Union Square and south of Gramercy Park
dangerous? dangerous for country mice?
Huh? I thought you already found a place to stay.
That's Irving Plaza neighborhood. Pretty nice neighbohood. It's safe, and it's close to some really good restaurants and nightlife. Plus, it's only a few blocks from
this place.
I've got something set up, but I can cancel until 5 days before.
Someone suggested a place that's kinda different - would suit my interest in the harbour. <I wonder if I'd have to do any praying?>
ohhh - April 30th looks good at the link
I think Beth was implying that she's not counting on me being there..... such little faith in a such a good friend <tsk>.
Plus factors are the really great food places, Sal Anthony's, Pete's (where we just had a gathering) the Sushi palace (can't think of it's name) the Friend of a Farmer or across Union Square... the Blue Water Grill, the Union Square Cafe, Steak Frites and that's just on 16th Street.
Union Square will be full of the Farmer's market folks while you are here.
You can get the N, R, 6 and L trains at Union Square and go to any place in the city.
The biggest Barnes and Noble in the city, a fabulous Movie theatre,
and you wanted to see the Strand Book store, it's a hop, skip and a jump to 12th Street.
PLUS it's within a baseball's throw of my hardware store so I'd say you'll be in one of the nicest neighborhoods in the city.
Joe( Oh, also on 16th is the Coffee Shop. Maybe you will see Ms. Swank eating her omelette) Nation
<busted>
<edit - that's fer l'k>
I think JoeN's just sold me on trying to get a reservation at the alternate.
Booked!
whoooooooowheeeeeeeeee
<does JoeNation work at a hardware store?>
EhBeth has crossed her Rubicon! Spring approaches.

Wait a minute. You booked that place near Gramercy Park and they're telling you it's walking distance to the Staten Island Ferry dock? I must be confused here. It is NOT walking distance to the Staten Island Ferry dock. Of course, you could walk it, I guess, but it's not just a quick little stroll, if that's what you're thinking...
kicky, I'm glad someone else thought the same thing I did about walking from Gramercy Park to the Staten Island ferry. I'm a pretty big walker, but the last time I walked that long a distance in Manhattan was during the blackout of 2003, when I walked home (Upper West Side) from the office (Hudson and Houston Streets). Of course it was 94 degrees out that day, which didn't help, but even so....
It's not on the website. I did a mapquest on it.
Quote: Total Est. Distance: 2.65 miles
Eminently walkable.
Anything less than 8 miles is a comfortable walking distance in my mind.
<my walk home during that stinkin' blackout was just under 12 miles - not comfortable due to heat and inappropriate footwear, but not outrageous>
