4dr Honda Accord or Mazda6?

Reply Sun 9 Jan, 2005 08:49 am
Which one is better? Why?

I'll be lugging around 3 furkids (6lbs, 11lbs, 60+lbs) and possibly 1 upright kid. On the flip side, my fiance will be racing through traffic (why he likes the v6) when I'm not in the car, and taking us on long roadtrips.

I've also been hearing from Honda Accord owners that they prefer the v4 over the v6?

I owed a Honda Accord for 3 1/2 years and I loved it. It never gave me one single problem and it handled all the over driving pretty well, even though I didn't take care of it as I should have, maintenance wise - not changing the oil for about 10k miles, for instance.

(yes, I know... I'm a girl and it was my first car.. what can I say?)

I've done it all. Raced through traffic, went on long trips (quite often, actually), used it as a car pool and moved my stuff with it from place to place a few times too.

But I have never driven a Mazda...

yeah. I was told by mr. joahaeyo that my toyota echo is not suitable for a family, and if I'm lucky ...can fit maybe ...my purse and gym bag, so he's getting me a new one in/or around Aug.

I am a Toyota/Honda fan.
He is a Nissan and anything other than T/H fan.
We are always at war over this. Wink

These are our 2 choices though. We're not looking to expand it at the moment.

toyota - honda will last forever and as she said, take a good beating and keep on moving. thier reliability rating is amazing. they are more forgiving in the ' bad maintance' catagory then any other vehicle.

If hubby doesnt like ford... make sure he knows that mazda IS ford. Ford products are 70% of the engine components. A mazda 626 is the same as a ford escort, probe etc. NOT bashing them... just making a point. ;-)
You can expand your car hunting to a used lexus also as lexus is toyota only amped up.
I am going to get you some comparison stats for these cars. Maybe that will help. It will take me a minute to find all of the info but i willpost what I find here little by little.

Actually, he was looking at these:

Quote:
There are some nice ones, Volvo, Saab, Honda Accord (the suped up one), a couple of SUVs, the Mazda 6, maybe the Mazda 3, and some other ones. The Audi is sweeeeeet, but it would have to be used.

We'd like to buy something reasonably priced, for a family, something we can see us in (personality wise), and something that is VERY reliable. I have heard horror stories with certain makes/models, yet do not from honda/toyota. He has the polar opposite opinion. Smile ...so I am very happy he is considering an Accord.

Mr. Joah: 0

(hehhe, not really because I kinda want an Xterra which would be a win for him. however, I worry about gas compared to a sedan)

If one of the big concerns you have is overall gas prices, toyota corolla still holds the highest small sedan mile-per gallon rating. In city they get from 38-40 miles per gallon, highway it is like 48.
I just bought one last year... i am a car dork.. as you can tell ;-) I change my own oil, do my own tune ups .. so easy to say my car is baby'ed in the maintance dept BUT ... it only costs me about 18 dollars to fill up my tank and i have to do that every other week. As for roomyness? well.. it is small. It fits me , hubby, baby and maybe one other person. It may not be what you are looking for in room but , price, reliability, gas mileage etc.. Maybe?? You can look at the toytoa matrix. The matrix is between 15-20 $. IS a hatchback so yo have room for the 4 legged babys, groceries , and an up right child too. Sporty, cheap, reliable and WOW what a fast ass little car. I test drove one of those before I settled on the corolla...
Oh MY GOD! i was impressed to say the least. If speed is a selling point.. go test drive one. Just for fun... you will see what I mean. ;-)
They also tested very high in the safety rating/crash test. Maybe...? that might be one for you

Toyotas are decent enough to drive, if you can get used to the way the windshield races in at your face. Which I can't.

Oh one more side note, Mazda... FAMOUS for early brake problems. Usually , cars dont have serious brake problems until about 60,000 miles or so?? Not set in concrete that number, but it is a good estimate..
Mazda.. expect it about 40,000 or sooner.

My dad has a Corolla, and I'm too tall to fit in it. Sad

otherwise, it's been wonderful for him and I like the look.

He always tries to drive my Echo because it is ranked one of the best for roof room (beats civic, and all other cars its size).

Anywho, Mr. Joah said absolutely "no" on the Corolla (did ask).

lol, that's okay. You're being very helpful.

this is more to get opinions for him. i'm already sold on the toyota. just trying to see what "others" think because who knows... maybe mazda6 is better. i know nothing about cars.

i personally dont like my corolla for its looks. i think it is ugly as sin.
i got it because it is a good family car, cheap gas and fit everyone, cheap etc...
but ugh, every time i look at it i am like... EW a GRANNY CAR! and i usually cry. Laughing

mazda have a pretty satisfactory reliability rating. Not outstanding like toyota / honda.
I dont think you will be unhappy at all with a mazda.
Thier life span is about 80,000 miles.

( life span means.. before the cost of repairs start to add up to cost of REPLACING) Laughing

Echo's are odd. I've had them as rentals a couple of times. I keep thinking the car is going to tip over forward - and not enough space compared to my Civic hatchback.

The Accord's nice, looks and drives like a baby Mercedes. Even my Mercedes-driving friend is thinking of getting an Accord next - a lot less, and less expensive, maintenance to deal with.
