Voicing displeasure from home
Several Web sites and groups are offering suggestions for people who want to protest President Bush's inauguration without going to Washington:
Bushblackout.com: People with Web sites or blogs should black out their screens and instead display "a short epitaph to democracy." One message recommended is the 1953 quote from President Eisenhower: "Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed."
Black-Thursday.com: Don't spend money, don't go to work, and tell your senator, congressman and local newspaper why. Not to be confused with
BlackThursday.org: On an "Inauguration Day of Mourning," wear a black pin, ribbon or tie and hang a black ribbon from your vehicle antenna.
NotOneDamnDime.com: Don't spend any money during a 24-hour boycott to protest "what is happening in our name in Iraq."
Gasoline Boycott Day: "Target Big Oil" by not buying gas, suggests the non-profit group Citizens Take Charge!
International Day of Fasting and Prayer: Gather in groups to pray and fast for peace and democracy. Organizers recommend that atheists and others who don't pray "spend time visualizing the positive, peaceful outcome you would like the world to achieve."
