I am in need of a good bagel recipe....I would like to make a few VERY LARGE ones to be distributed to my family on Christmas eve, as gifts. There used to be a place in Canton, MA that would specially make them for me at Christmas time, but they have since sold their business and the bagels are no longer available to me. This is a family tradition for us to eat bagels slathered with cream cheese and topped with slices of hard salami. The large bagels were almost a full 12" in diameter! My neices and nephews ADORED them and were heartbroken when we resorted to regular sized bagels on Christmas morning! I'd really like to surprise them this year with the giant ones again. Perhaps someone knows of a place where I could get them made.....south of Boston (South Shore or Cape Cod). I'd appreciate any help I can get! Happy Holidays!
chun chun! Is this THE chun chun of Abuzz fame?
Oh my goodness, how nice to see you here!
Welcome!
But sorry, I know absolutely nothing about bagels!
I'm sure someone else will, though.
msolga, it is I....I hang my head in shame for having to fall out of the loop for so long! Life has been busy, but I had this old, familiar, soul stirring deep insde that brought back fond memories of long sleepless nights and blurry eyes that I shared with my Abuzz friends! What drove the nail home was the mention of my soul mate, Vincent! Has anyone heard from him?.....I DO miss those good times and fabulous recipes!......I shall be around a bit more, I hope!
Oh, good!
We all miss Vincent. I think he made a brief appearance here, then vanished!
Still got those wonderful cats?

Wonderful to see you!@
I'm the Abuzz and A2k bagel grouch - never known a good one - but welcome to our site!
Ditto the Aussies. I miss Vincent, too.
chun chun, VERY long time no see! If you are looking for the genuine article, try this recipe. It's very good, and a hoot to read as well.
http://homecooking.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.jewish%2Dfood.org/recipes/brea0007.htm If you want huge bagels, I would suggest just dividing the dough into larger portions, or if you need a lot, double it and do the same.
Ah, the chef to the rescue!
Ahhh, thanks everyone.....it feels good to finally find a place where I'm among friends that have the same food passions as I.....But, forgive me if I don't reply immediately. I have such a busy schedule at the moment, it takes away from my computer time! I need this holiday to be behind us now!!! Don't get me wrong, I love it, but I'm WAAAY behind on my baked goods for gifts and I'm running out of time!!!!
msolga...we lost out siamese, Grizzly to cancer last year. So he now rests in peace beneath my flower garden under my kitchen window, which we lovingly refer to as "Grizzly's Garden." We have a new cat named Duster. She's a Himalayan Silver. She' s really quite amusing! So, now, when I call the cats, I only have to yell one word and they both come running..... FeatherDuster!!!
margo....Thank you for the welcome, and, just between you and me, I don't think you're really as grouchy as you pretend to be!
cav.....I am sooo glad you're also on this site! This is like old home week! I'm lovin' it!! Thank you for the link....I'm VERY interested!
Oh, I'm sorry about Grizzly, chun chun. But I love the idea of Grizzly's garden. That's nice! And welcome Duster!
(Sorry, chun chun, I'm still none the wiser about bagels tips, though.)
Thanks, msolga....I think I'll try the recipe cavfancier introduced me to. I'll let you know how they come out....stay tuned! Hopefully I'll find time before Christmas Eve...yiiiiikes!!!
ok, everyone....consider this thread closed and the question answered (thanks, cav!)
