@edgarblythe,
Hey, edgar. Don't know that one by Hank. Still think his lyrics are pure poetry, however.

I watched a little bit of Pearl Harbor, but found it was rather boring. I had forgotten that Francis Albert won a best supporting actor in From Here to Eternity, and I found the song by him, folks.

Heard from ehBeth, and she and Setanta got a kick out of my post on Reyn's thread. Glad to know that.

Good afternoon, WA2K.

I loved "From Here to Eternity" (the book was even better) . I couldn't get "Aloha" to play, but I do appreciate the thought, Letty.

Lots of notables today:

Stanley Holloway (1890-1982); Vladimir Horowitz (1903-1989); Walter Matthau (1920-2000); James Whitmore (1921); Jimmy Carter (1924); Roger Williams, pianist (1926); Tom Bosley (1927); Laurence Harvey (1928-1973); George Peppard (1928-1999); Sir Richard Harris (1930-2002) and Dame Julie Andrews (1935)

Here are Laurence, George, Richard and Julie :http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/0/0c/Laurence_Harvey1.jpg/180px-Laurence_Harvey1.jpghttp://members.cox.net/ralphhanson/HTWWW/pics/people/GeorgePeppard.JPG

@Raggedyaggie,
Thanks, Raggedy, for the quartet of faces and the reminder that other notables were born on the first of October.(pssst, Region explained to me that often, you must click on the little speaker at the bottom of the tube to get the sound)

First, all, let's hear a beautiful classical piece from Horowitz, and one of my very favorites.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq7ncjhSqtk

Next, from one of the best movies ever, The Unforgiven, a memory of Richard Harris. Gene Hackman referred to him as "the duck of death."

Here is a lovely song from that movie, folks.

@JPB,
This one from My Fair Lady was one we used to sing in multiple parts on long car trips when I was a kid.

@JPB,
Good afternoon to you, Rocky. Where's Bull Winkle? Razz

That Tchaikovsky classic has popular lyrics to it, but no can find, JPB.

Well, Julie didn't get the movie role in My Fair Lady, but she countered with Mary Poppins.

Here's the movie version of your song by Audrey, and then a Mary Poppins favorite, folks.

Richard Harris had a huge hit with MacArthur Park. I like it very much. Don't know exactly why.

Roger Williams had one of the better recordings of Autumn Leaves, in my never humble opinion.

@edgarblythe,
I remember McArthur Park, edgar. Never quite understood it, however. I recall your having said that you liked Roger Williams' "Autumn Leaves", and that version was good, buddy. Thanks!

Does anyone remember A Man Called Horse? I understood that to become a man in the American Indian culture, one must be able to withstand pain. Richard Harris was great in that movie.

@edgarblythe,
Where is our Reyn? I do hope he is all right, edgar.

Time for me to say goodnight, all, and I think I shall do it with a classical by Chopin and the lyrics adapted from same by Babs.

First, the classical, y'all.

Now the popular lyrics.

Good night now.

@edgarblythe,
Good morning, WA2K radio.

edgar, I knew the song, but not Patsy. As usual, I don't know why I knew it. Country cousins, I guess.

Today is Don McLean's birthday, and I found this one by him that I like, folks.

Good morning WA2K. Very Happy

A Happy 63rd to Don McClean today. I like everything Don does, Letty. My favorite is "Vincent" and then, "And I Love Her So" and then:

Some other birthday notables are:

Groucho Marx (1890-1977); Bud Abbott (1895-1974); George (Spanky) McFarland (1928-1993); Sting (1951 ) and Kelly Ripa (1970)

@Raggedyaggie,
Good afternoon, Raggedy. Thanks for the memories as reflected in your montage, PA, and that song by Don was lovely.

I was looking for Abbot and Costello's Who's on first, and ran across a hilarious parody, y'all. Then we'll follow up with a beautiful song by Sting.

First, the parody:

Now, Fields of Gold:

@edgarblythe,
Loved that clip of Groucho, edgar. Tried to find Hurrah for Captain Spaulding, but no luck. I think he was right in bitching about dirty stuff.

Why would you be reluctant to do Spanky? Our Gang was a great group, Texas.

First, a famous song by Groucho, then Spanky.

@Letty,
Well, I had stopped because of an intense desire to have myself an afternoon nap. Thanks for doing Spanky for me. I still recall seeing that one with Uncle George at the local Saturday Matinee.
