Hi, I want to do a full bathroom remodel next year and want to start saving up, but I'm wondering how much I should save before spending money by calling a contractor.

@TSthefany,

pick out a few in your area and get estimates on the job...

@TSthefany,
I recently remodeled the bathroom. New tile shower, new vanity, etc. I did all the work myself and it ran about $3,000 for materials. Labor is almost always the most expensive part of any job, so easily another $3,000.

If I were just saving up money for a project like a full bathroom remodel, I'd go into it planning to spend between $6,000 and $8,000 depending on how big and fancy. You CAN save money by sourcing your own fixtures, tile, etc along the way. Watch for clearance items at the hardware store and price shop online and you can save a lot of money over whatever the contractor charges (usually 15-20% over his cost which is usually retail or just below it).
