Just heard it on the news. Effective March, 2005.
Didn't he announce a long time ago that he would retire after this last election?
A year too late. Just think of all the fun he could have had covering the hurricanes as a correspondent.
He's leaving the anchor post, I understand, but he's not leaving the network.
Here's a quiz...which anchor did Dan Rather replace?
Edgar, you will still have him for years to come. His sonorous baritone, filled with innuendo, will be a fixture for years to come on 60M and any other project that fits his self rightious take on things.
It has always been interesting to me that Dan was a poor Texas boy who always felt a tad insecure around the East Coast cognoscenti that run his biz. He did very well by them despite his humble beginnings. Some of us who recogize the MSM for what it is found him laughable, many others took him to be a serious journalist. Not a bad legacy.
Micky replaced Joe, Dan replaced Walter. 1981, just in time for Reagan........hehe old Ronnie really used to frost Dan!
Talk all the trash about him you like. He endured in that anchor spot for a long time. Cronkite actually gave up his spot for a better man in my view.
I once had respect for Rather. Sadly, his sense of self-importance finally exceeded his talents.
I didn't always like what he did, but he was a good reporter, for the most part. I will miss him too.
Obviously many people feel as you do edgar. Dan's longevity, in MY view, had plenty to do with where his nose was stuck, but I think that is inevitable in show business.
Courage!
Edgar, seriously, didn't you find the flap over Bush's records disturbing? Although Rather has always leaned to the left, to ignore the rules of journalistic "integrity" to make points for the Democrats, smack in the middle of an election, surprised even me.
He makes one mistake in all these years. If he were right leaning you would forgive him if he took drugs and lied before congress and the UN.
Ya think? I hope you enjoy Dan's replacement for years to come Edgar.
Interesting you lump Congress and the UN together.
One mistake? If Dan only made one mistake it was not becoming a weatherman.
Say all the dumb things ya want. He is still a fine newsman.
His passing will leave a void ... Courage, Edgar. Courage!
I got it!
Let's replace him with Limbaugh!
Ticomaya
That is what is currently regarded as good reporting. No wonder Dan got out of step.
