We desperately need some window coverings in our living room and bedroom, but I don't know whether to go for blinds, curtains or both. I like the idea of a window blind for function, but I think they can look a little plain, however I don't want to over do it with curtains too. Thoughts?
p.s my colour scheme is turquoise with pops of gold.
I would recommend to use both for the living room and curtain for the bedroom.
If the window in the living room doesn't provide direct sunlight at any point of time, blind may not be necessary.

Curtains and Blinds both considered fantastic choices that are versatile with look, function, and control over light, privacy and energy saving properties.
Curtains are best suited for lounge and bedrooms.

I have both curtains and blinds in my bedroom and only curtains in my living room. Nice choice of colour by the way
I would suggest you both blinds as well as curtains depending upon the sunlight you want in different rooms. In the end, it depends on your choice.

For complete darkness, cover the windows with aluminum. One small problem is that it will be very noisy if there's the slightest air movement, but it will block the light.

We always used both in our home. Vertical PVC blinds are best because they are easy cleaned. Then close your curtains to hide the blinds at night.

For the living room, I prefer having curtains all over the window, while I use blinds for the bedroom.

I do not like blinds in the bedroom, curtains give the room a cozy atmosphere. Therefore, it all depends on your preferences and style of the house.
