Dont blame me I'm not asking the question, this was asked by the Daily Mirror this morning.http://images.icnetwork.co.uk/upl/mirror/nov2004/1/0/000ADF94-E181-1189-B6E080BFB6FA0000.jpg

Don't ask me, I'm from a BLUE state. We feel very isolated, here on the Pacific coast.

I've asked myself the same question. Record deficit, most jobs lost in 75 years, gas prices through the roof and a war for no reason. I'm astonished. What good did George W. do?? If it weren't for 9/11 I suspect Georgie boy wouldn't have been reelected.

If it weren't for 9/11 none of those other problems would be such a problem.

hmmm... 59m for bush. and only a measley 56m for kerry. you're right cj. nobody at all voted for kerry.

good thing that it's only about 1/2 of the country that is out of the "mainstream".

'If it weren't for 9/11 I suspect Georgie boy wouldn't have been reelected.'

Hard to say since 9/11 was directly (or indirectly) responsible for everything you list there.

Except for the gas prices...blame that on those who don't wish to see us energy independant.

We simply do not defeat an incumbent president in wartime. After wars surely, but never in their midst.

As I've said before, we've had worse wars and more expensive tragedies, but never such a deficit. Accepting responsibility is the first step to rational policy.

Allowing war to insulate a presidency creates perverse incentives.

Where to begin spending less?

Are we going to cut health care funding, school funding? Scientific research?

At some point, maybe we should think about taking in more as well as spending less?

Normally, I would hesitate to "take in more," but at this point, we have enough of a problem that prudent budget cutting will not do the trick, particularly given the needy state of some of our existing programs. Yes, we overspent during these last four years, and I agree--we need to approach that problem from both a "revenue" and an "expense" angle. As a generally small gov. sort of guy, this makes me wince--but policy making isn't a cakewalk.
