Brothers and Sisters!
Brethren and Cistern (no, that's not right.)

Welcome to the Little Chapel of Exercise!
I call on you to come forth and testify. Tell us of your struggles
and triumphs. Give encouragement to your brothers and sisters.
Reaffirm your faith in exercise! Can I get an Amen from the
congregation? Thank you.

The time has come, I say the TIME HAS COME, to get off that keister
and get the blood pumping in whatever manner best suits you. You,
that is, my brothers and sisters in sweat.

I say to you:
Blessed are the runners, walkers and hikers, for you shall deplete
your fat cells.
Blessed are the rowers, canoers and kayakers, for the dominion of the
water is yours.
Blessed also are the indoor warriors, on treadmills, steppers,
stationary bikes and rowing machines, for you shall increase your
aerobic capacity.
Blessed are the mountain bikers, for there is a special Providence for
maniacs such as your nutcase selves.

Come forward now, share with us.

I'm a jogger. I used to be a runner, but I just don't push myself that hard any more. I'm lucky enough to have shower facilities where I work and work day that is often flexible enough to allow me to jog during lunch. Good for the waistline and great for stress reduction.

Lambert Hendricks And Ross - The Best Of...

Sermonette

Lambert Hendricks And Ross lyrics
I heard me a sermonette Have you heard it yet?
With that soulful message that you won't soon forget
It tells about real true love people lost sight of
through their sinful livin' and scornin' Heaven above

It tells you to love one another, To feel that each man's your brother
Live right, 'cause you know that you reap (just) what you sew
And so to have no regrets, and to find what you're missin,
Bow your head and listen to this sermonette

Sorry, George. That just slipped out...Heh! Heh!

You're right, of course. Exercise is great, and I love to swim and dive, but recently I'm sorta like the guy who sold lightning rods. He got caught out in a storm and lost interest in his job.

Thank you, Brother Region for your testimony!
Rise, I say RISE! from that torpor, my brother.
Let the autumn of year bring excitation, not hibernation!
The hills are alive with the sound of hiking!
Breathe that fresh air; crunch those fallen leaves under foot.

Go forth!

The best I do is a lot of walking kind of sporatically. I do some yoga when my muscles feel tight. I really REALLY need to start getting more excersize. Thanks for the sermon preacher!

Praise be, for Sister Letty has joined us!
Be diver; be a swimmer!
You'll be wiser; you'll be slimmer!

Rekindle that aquatic zeal.
The pool calls you, O Mermaid. Break out that swimsuit.

Who comes forth? Why it's Sister littlek!
Testify! Testify!

She has seen the light, brothers and sisters.
Halleluia!

Unroll that yoga mat, sister!

Practice your stretching
and keep your figure fetching.

George, honey. If I got any slimmer, I'd disappear.

Fancy the mermaid,
There on the rocks,
Looking at oceans
With kelp for her locks.

Combing her hair
With prized abalone,
Trying to force feed
Dear old bologna.

I would like to see the soccer man create a poem in the original writing category.

But he is too shy,
Like the Lorelei

ah, Kicky. Play along:

There's a village hidden deep in the valley
Among the pine trees half forlorn
And there on a sunny morning
Little Jimmy Brown was born

All the chapel bells were ringing
In the little valley town
And the songs that they were singing
Were for baby Jimmy Brown
Then the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation,
Bless this hour of meditation
Guide him with eternal love

There's a village hidden deep in the valley
Beneath the mountains high above
And there, twenty years thereafter
Jimmy was to meet his love

All the chapel bells were ringing,
Was a great day in his life
Cause the songs that they were singing
Were for Jimmy and his wife
Then the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation,
Bless oh Lord this celebration
May their lives be filled with love

From the village hidden deep in the valley
One rainy morning dark and gray
A soul winged its way to heaven
Jimmy Brown had passed away

Just a lonely bell was ringing
In the little valley town
Twas farewell that it was singing
To our good old Jimmy Brown
And the little congregation
Prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation,
May his soul find the salvation
Of thy great eternal love"

The Bells.

Exercise, huh?

Well, I spent about two years grabbing a 30 minute walk at lunch break, and half again as much on weekends. Having been diagnosed with type II diabetes, I do the thirty minutes at lunch, and about 40 minutes in the evening. Bought a rowing machine, which I try to use for 20 minutes every other day. Every other day often turns out to mean once every three days. I recently bought a bicycle and was riding it on weekends, and substituting it for for the evening walk on alternate days. Daylight savings is gone and I don't like riding in traffic in the dark.

Do I feel better? Sure! I mean, after all that, I just have to, right? But if it's working, it sneaks up on you. Who really remembers how they felt eight months ago.

Brother Kicky, step forth!

Pounding pavement, pounding sand,
Pounding the heavy bag with gloved hand!

Work out those frustrations, brother.
Sublimate those passions!

All say Amen to Brother Kicky!

Hail Brother Roger from Land of Enchantment!

Our brother reminds us that exercise is manifold and wondrous. Seek the light by whatever path avails. A walk on the green or a rowing machine; a ride on the bike or vigorous hike!
Praise be, Brother, praise be.
You will prevail!

and Music by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer

Gather 'round me, everybody
Gather 'round me while I'm preach some.
Feel a sermon comin' on me
The topic will be sin and that's what I'm ag'in'
If you wanna hear my story
The settle back and just sit tight
While I start reviewin'
The attitude of doin' right

You've got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
And latch on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

You've got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium's
Liable to walk upon the scene

To illustrate my last remark
Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark
What did they do just when everything looked so dark?

(Man, they said "We'd better accentuate the positive")
("Eliminate the negative")
("And latch on to the affirmative")
Don't mess with Mister In-Between (No!)
Don't mess with Mister In-Between

(Ya got to spread joy up to the maximum)
(Bring gloom down to the minimum)
(Have faith or pandemonium's)
(Liable to walk upon the scene)

You got to ac (yes, yes) -cent-tchu-ate the positive
Eliminate (yes, yes) the negative
And latch (yes, yes) on to the affirmative
Don't mess with Mister In-Between
No, don't mess with Mister In-Between.

Damn, we're on a roll.

Roger--

I confess I share your weakness of flexible time...every day...most days...at least four days a week....

Do I need to be reformed? Or inspired?

Sister Noddy, come forward.

Speak to us of reformation! Indeed we must all reform. Reform minds! Reform hearts! Reform forms!

Planning is key. Set time aside, an office of fitness. The Matins of an early morning walk, the Vespers of an evening on the cycle, the Compline of a bedtime stretch!

Find inspiration for perspiration.

Hold, I say HOLD! thy dominion Sister Noddy.
