Paint can be fun to mess around with, but the lack of tools really does limit what you can do with it. If you want to practice doing art on the computer, I wouldn't waste your time meddling with paint.

I'm sure you guys have seen some of the art that I draw on the computer using Photoshop (or have you?) but anyway, using just a few more tools really opens up a whole new world of capability.

Here's an example I did in about an hour (they don't all go that quickly though...sometimes it takes me more than 10 hours).

The only additional tools I needed were smudge, layers, marquee selection, brightness/contrast, and adjustable brushes.

that takes alot of time, I admire your persistance to start from scratch like that in PhotoShop. I have never thought of it like a paint program.

Amazing! do you have a graphics tablet stuh or is this done with the mouse?

I love Photoshop too but use it differently - I scan in fragments of paintings, sketches, textures, bits and pieces and then combine them and use all the tools stuh was using and more. It is such a wonderful tool. If I'm going to paint then I'd rather use real paint - just a personal thing - but to manipulate and experiment I love using the computer. I show giclee prints created in this way as limited editions (10 or 20 only) alongside my paintings. They are then originals and not reproductions, they exist in no other form.

here are 2 I did this way:

it is off topic because the original challenge was to use the basic Paint programme - but Photoshop is so much more creative

these are part of a series of paintings and digital images on the seasons.

they are really nice, I like to see the creative things people can do with programs that seem to have about 10 ways to do something. That is what I love about PhotoShop.

nice, vivien.

yes, I use a tablet...its a small one, 3x5 I think, and I can't even really draw a striaght line with it (luckily drawing stright lines was never a necessity for art).

I started using photoshop when I was in middle school, but I just recently started making art from scratch in it (I waited until I got a tablet, I've done only 5 or 6). I'll post some of the others that I have done with it later.
I find it much easier to use photshop than to paint by hand...no struggling with the medium.

I don't have one Crying or Very sad but would love one - it is a pad and 'pencil' that you use instead of the mouse and is much more fluent for painting/drawing - Stuh will be able to tell you proper details
