First order of business for those of us who are glad Bush won:
Don't be jerks. Be as courteous as you would have been if Kerry would have won. Even though Bush carried more of the popular vote then Gore or Clinton, it wasn't as much as Reagan had in his second term. So don't pretend it is.
With that said, and in the spirit of Wed morning quarterbacking, what were the Democrats thinking with Kerry as their candidate? I have always said that I thought Dean would have not only been a better candidate, but very well might have won.
Any A2Kers want to comment?
I think for some the urge to not be a jerk will depend largely on the reaction of the Kerry supporters to the election.
I don't imagine Dookie will be very pleasant, for instance.
But I agree with your post, except I don't think Dean would have won.
The same people who will be denigrating the President and claiming that Bush stole another election would have been the same ones that would have been rubbing the Conservative's faces in the loss had Kerry won.
On the other hand, I think that it is time to start mending fences with our Liberal brethren and try to bring things together after the ugliest election I can ever remember.
Don't hurt yourselves.
I think it is clear that this election was legitimately won by Bush. I don't think any liberal will dispute this. Don't expect serious claims of robbing this one.
I don't expect gracious winners. There is nothing gracious about this, and the country will remain divided for another four years. It is impossible for me to accept the policies of Bush, from his bloody little war, to his attacks on science and his disasterous deficits.
This battle has been won by Bush, but unfortunately the very divisive issue still remain.
I plan to be a persistant and clear voice of dissent for the rest of this administration.
I wonder if there's anything good on TV tonight.
Lol - BTW, way to go, guys!
I agree that we should be gracious winners. But, is it too much to ask for Dems to refrain from calling 51% of the country idiots or worse? For heavens sake, Dems do not hold a monopoly on being thinking people at the polls. I give Dems full credit for being thinking people, as much as I may disagree with their conclusions.
Bush wins popular vote by nearly 4 million.
First President since 1988 to win a majority of the popular vote.
Largest number of votes in history go to Bush
Bush wins electoral vote with projected comfortable margin...286 - 252
Senate Minority Leader Daschle defeated.
GOP gains seats in House.
GOP gains margin in Senate.
Do ya think the Dems may one day figure out that a campaign based solely on the imagined negatives of the opponent will never be a winner?
Larry434 - stop this please. I suppose we want a constructive debate here.
I concede Bush has won. I concede nothing else.
If I were Kerry I would challenge the outcome all the way until the last vote gets counted.
Not a good idea, that just divides the country even more.
Impossible to divide it more short of open revolt.

IMO, the Dems will just further alienate the electorate by dragging out the inevitable concession.
Ah, but 49% of the population still feel that 2000 was stolen with dirty counting, so it's important that every vote gets counted, even if what matters is the electoral college vote.
I agree with princess. The appearance of propriety, of leaving no stone unturned, is important here.
