Which way is grammatically correct for the following two questions?
(1) Do you need us to supply the water heater?
(2) Do you need us to supply the dishwasher?
-OR-
(1) Do you need us to supply you with the water heater?
(2) Do you need us to supply you with the dishwasher?
This is for an app I am working on, I would appreciate alternate suggestions on how to best ask this as well. Thanks
@jave2141,
Are you going to supply these things for free?
If not, then you need to tell people that you can get these items, but they must pay for them.
Water heaters are available for an additional cost.
@jave2141,
Of course Jave it'd depend a lot on context; but the last two seem a bit redundant
@PUNKEY,
Customers will pay for these. It is disclosed in the app that they pay for these. I am just trying to decide which is the best way to phrase the question of whether they'd like us to supply the appliance (water heater/dishwasher)
@dalehileman,
So the first two sound better? I am going to ask these questions using either the first two or the last two. I am just trying to decide which way sounds better.
@jave2141,
Jave it's the second two that sound a bit redundant
@jave2141,
Do you only have one dishwasher/water heater? I would say,
Do you need us to supply you with a water heater/dishwasher, not the.
@jave2141,
Neither sounds quite right.
Take a look at izzy's comment. Punkey's comment re cost also needs to be considered.
@izzythepush,
We don't know that for sure, Iz. My guess was that a unit had been under discussion for some reason and it was that unit or the lack thereof under q; so 'the' might be better
Always context
@dalehileman,
yes, as @dalehileman said, on this page of the app the unit (water heater/dishwasher) is under question. The customer is on a page where they have selected to have a water heater/dishwasher installed and the customer is just answering additional questions regarding what's needed for the installation. Questions such as: Do you need us to supply the water heater/dishwasher?
@jave2141,
Would a more pertinent question be if they want it fitted? Dishwashers and water heaters need to be plumbed in, it's not like buying a kettle or a computer when all you really need is for it to be supplied.
Why does it have to be in the form of a question? How about,
We can supply and fit a wide range of cookers/water heaters, if you would like to use this service click here.
@jave2141,
is they say yes, then they will need to enter details about the unit.
@jave2141,
My concern in regards to phrasing the question as -- "Do you need us to supply the water heater?" -- is that it could be misconstrued. Couldn't someone interpret it as if they'd like us to fill the water heater with water or something of the sort instead of actually just selling them the water heater? Does anyone else see that?
@izzythepush,
@Iz this is for an app for a plumbing company and it is actually very common for customers to ask us to get the water heater for them. All we need is the size (width/height of the space it will go in) the gallons and if they prefer electric or gas. This is a very common request. In the app the user would have selected to have a water heater installed or replaced and are now offering details about their preferences. I would like to find a clear way to ask if they need us to supply the water heater or if they already have one in a yes or no format. I need it to be a yes or no answer for my design to make sense. Hope that's enough context. Thanks so much for all the replies. I am just still undecided.
@jave2141,
How about "Do you need us to supply you with a new water heater?"
@jave2141,
You are really asking if they need to purchase a unit ( water heater or whatever) from yoy, which you can install or if they have their own unit and they want installation only - right?
@jave2141,
If you need us to supply you with a water heater press A, if you have your own and just require installation press B.
He wants Y/N format.
Do you need installation of a water heater?
If you have your own unit and need installation only, hit YES.
If you need to purchase a new waterHeater, which we will install, hit YES.

"I need it to be a yes or no answer for my design to make sense."
