Here in the Poconos there seem to be remarkably few acorns this year. The dearth will be hard on squirrels, mice, voles, woodchucks, and the bears may well hibernate early.

How is the acorn crop in your neck of the woods?

Hey Noddy, I actually heard that last year's crop was a big one and so most squirrels lived through the winter (usually some die of starvation I guess...?). And, now the over-populated squirrels are all hungry.

So much so, rumor has it, that they're eating things that they shouldn't eat like car wires.

Auto sabotage in these parts is generally due to chipmunks--who don't need a small acorn harvest as an excuse.

In fact, we've had acorns stored in the car engine.

Last year's acorn crop wasn't conspicuously good in these parts.

Oh. Well, I really haven't seen much in the way of acorns this year, but last year everyone noticed them everywhere.

I guess I should start feeding the little fuzzballs.
