The hacks aren't calling it, but I'm going to. Regardless of the outcome of the rest of country, John Howard will not be our prime minister tomorrow.

YES!

The last sitting Prime minister to lose his seat was Stanley Bruce in 1929.

Howard could well emulate him on early figures.

Some booths have an 18% swing against Howard.

Nine's election telecast has shredded him.

The last ones would have closed about 85 minutes ago. Didn't matter. Election was won before the west coast even started being counted.

It will be a few days before the official announcement by the electoral commission until all the votes are officially counted tallied checked and rechecked.

The first things on the agenda will be ratifying Kyoto at the next climate change conference In Bali. Then roll back of the controversial work choices legislation.

Howard, as is traditional, has conceded the election in a speech moments ago. We are now waiting for Rudds acceptance speech.

And weren't the last minute polls wrong!

Workchoices will take years to roll back. I believe a 3 year figure was mentioned. Labors ability to roll it back (and the exact form the roll back takes) will also depend on the make up of the Senate.

At a guess, in the new year, they will start talks with the US of withdrawing Australian troops from Iraq (and some time after that, they'll probably talk about increasing numbers in Afghanistan, but no doubt only by a small percentage, because Rudd is most interested in focusing on our own back yard)

Farmerman, Mr. Howard has been Mr. Bush's puppy for far to long, come next Saturday and he'll wish he'd never hear of his master George because the Australian people will kick him to the proverbial scrapheap.

PM. Howard is unable to tell me what we are doing in Iraq! What have the Iraqi people done to Australia? 20 Million Iraqi nomads a threat to world peace, what utter bullsh*t! How can you vote for such an incompetent individual who believes that?

Farmerman please note! Not only did our Prime Minister Mr. Howard lose the election he lost his OWN seat as well. A just reward for his incompetence.

At last count Antony (Green) gave Labor 86 seats - a majority of 22 in the House of Reps.

Not bad, hey?

I'm dying to hear about the Senate line-up, but apparently it'll take ages before we know. Mid-week sometime, perhaps.

I couldn't gey over how gracious & dignified everyone was, particularly Labor, which could have been gloating like crazy!
