Who are the two mysterious Thumb people?

@McGentrix,
There are posters here on this site who will thumb down a post only because of who wrote it. I stopped paying attention to the up/down counts on my posts years ago because of bitter angry people.

You should also know that there are posters who claim to never thumb down a post but they are lying through their teeth. I could name a few people I suspect of doing this but I won't. You can guarantee though they are all from the same side of the political isle. The over use of "ignoring" proves this to be true. I mean if you are going to ignore a poster because they don't agree with you, what is stopping you from downing all of their posts?

@Baldimo,
Probably it would be easiest for all the pro-Trump people to put all the anti-Trump people on "ignore", and vice versa. Then neither side would get thumbed down, nor would we have to worry about actually having to explain or defend ourselves!

(Before I get voted down — it was a joke.)

I only have one person on "ignore"; cammie left before I got the chance to add him to the list. And while I have thumbed people down on a few occasions it was because their post was really bad, what I consider personally insulting, overly hostile, or excessively crude. And I've thumbed up righties a few times when I see a high quality post.

I also suspect this. I can't see any way to prove it though. Which political isle do you mean? The Isle of Wight? The Isle of Man? (Sorry, couldn't resist that)

It does seem like overkill, but one thing I have learned from 20 years of using the Web is that there seems to be no limit to human wickedness.

@Baldimo,
Bald I wonder if you're aware that some of us click on it not to insult the OP'er but to curtail the size of our listing

@dalehileman,
If that's the case, how do you explain the heavy down votes of right of center posters? Seems that no matter how stupid a post from the left or right is, the lefty poster always seems to have positive counts and all the righty posters have negative counts... Interesting to say the least.

Some people can't believe that their posts could be genuinely unpopular, and would prefer to think that they are being voted down by a mysterious hidden cabal of liberals or alt-righters or whatever.

Funny thing is, I see a pretty even distribution. Depends how you define lefty and righty.

Isn't it obvious what that means?

You can't be asking this out of seriousness?

Remember he is senile. And a passive-aggressive time waster. Take your pick.

If I really don't like some of the content, of a post, I'll make a post saying so. Same if I really like a post.

I would never use the "up/down vote" function to express myself, especially if I'm just trying to express my opinion about an individual, as opposed to his opinions. It's lazy, meaningless, and juvenile. These thumbers must be junior high students who think that the most important thing in the world is "popularity," or the lack thereof, ya know?

Yeah, I can dig that.

Not so much — I'd rather do that anonymously so as not to risk sounding patronizing.

Thing is, I don't know if I've ever seen a written "protocol of thumbing" on this site. So people might be doing it for different reasons, like someone who just does it to reduce clutter on the page or someone who doesn't think of "up" or "down" as a big deal and doesn't mind being thumbed down in the least.

@layman,
Remember when I said I'd "see you on the Blues thread"? The fact that I lost interest in your Trump commentary doesn't mean that I'm not interested in what you have to say on other topics; call it a situational ignore.

That isn't true at all.

There is a liberal crowd here that thumbs each other up even for making petty personal insults. If you don't see that Centrox, it might be because you are in the middle of it.

Then there are people here who are thumbed down for making innocuous comments simply for who they are. Thumbs are, without question, personally motivated here. And there is an in-crowd here who are orthodox liberals who the thumbs favor.

@maxdancona,
Mule muffins. Every new thread I start automatically gets voted to zero and I am as liberal as they come. Sometimes the down votes get overcome by positive ones, sometimes not. I think it is personalities at least as much as politics determines who gets voted down.

@edgarblythe,
I think we are basically saying the same thing, Edgar... it is personalities rather than politics.

For what it is worth, I don't consider you part of the "in-crowd". I mean that as a compliment.
