John Elway

First time I have seen his name, must not be any Colorado posters. I'm surprised no one else has mentioned him, especially with all the Super Bowl Ring and athleticism talk.

Fbaezer, I flat our love your rankings! Laughing

Ah, makes sense now Child. I forgot you were so young. Troy Aikman played on a couple of Cowboy teams that were the best, but he was never the best even for a year. Ahman Green is the first truly gifted running back Brett's played with. Those other guys gained 1,000 only because the safetys were always back in coverage. You'll notice none have ever started for another team after leaving the pack. Levens barely got a backup job in Philly, remember?

Steve Young only played 16 games in 3 seasons in his entire career. Brett has every year since 1992. I can't believe you'd bring up injuries. Laughing Brett's already thrown 127 more Touchdowns than Young did in his entire career. Young was damn good, fast and accurate as hell... but he was no Brett Favre.

Elway is a far more reasonable name to advance.

I just love Steve Young. I realize that Brett's numbers beat Young's, but Young is, in my eyes, the best I've ever seen. But remember, Young's road of advancement was blocked by the best ever, Montana, and like you said, even when he did play he was injured a lot. Just imagine how great his career would have been if he'd started from the age of 22 and played until he was 40.

BTW Bill:
Did you know Bill that I am from Pascagoula, Ms? Which is about 30 minutes from your God's hometown of Kiln. Back in 97 you couldn't go down a street without seeing a store selling tons of Favre merch....Total cream dream eh?

Injuries help in the decline of both Levens and Bennett.

No, I didn't know that. Who names the towns there? Laughing Back in 97 the entire State of Wisconsin looked the same way... much of it still does.

If you had seen Bennett for yourself you'd know he didn't bring much to the table, and Levens in his prime didn't look any better than Travis Jervey (who Shocked). Reverse their rolls and Travis Jervey becomes a 1,000 yard rusher... believe it, or not. I'm not trying to dis Levens... hell, I still have a Levens jersey... but he was never going to be remembered if he didn't have Brett spreading out defense. Believe it. Those interceptions people laugh at are the result of strong AND free safetys in the secondary. Idea And again, from 1992 through the present only 2 guys in history have a higher rating than God... I mean Brett  In this, his 14th year in the league, his currently ongoing TD streak is the second longest in history and last week he threw a crucial lead block (Shocked) despite have sprained his throwing hand earlier in the first half. Not only did he not slow down; he connected on 23 out of 29 passes for 2 touchdowns and a QB rating of 126.7 Exclamation The label "Ironman" might be a little too sissyish for Brett Favre.

I'd put Young in my top 10 too and you may even be right about him playing better than Montana, when he played. But that doesn't help if you're not out there playing. He had a brilliant career but he's not even on the lists of most of the records Brett already holds or the few he's still chasing.Idea

I would consider Elway to be the greatest quarterback to ever play. My logic? Let's take all the quarterbacks of all time and place them on the same team, say the '92 Bengals for example. Then plug in the various quarterbacks and have them all play one hundred games against the same opponents. In the end Elway would have the best record.

Marino, Montana, Young, Unitas, Bradshaw, Tarkenton, and others would fill out the top ten.

I have Brett Favre firmly entrenched in the #128 slot.

I don't really care who is in fact the greatest. None comes close to Bradshaw in my esteem and affection.

Aw. geez. I just dropped in. I barely glanced at the other posts. I bet Gus should have that honor.

I really liked watching Bradshaw too. No quit in him. No fear of interceptions. One of the first complements I bestowed on Brett was that he reminds me of Terry Bradshaw. Loved the way he repeatedly tore apart the Cowboys, who I never liked (who've never once won at Lambeau Field, btw). He has to be in any top 10 list too.

Hey, Dorsey rocked.

It's great to have a rb of Green's caliber, though, yeah.

Nobody's mentioned Dan Fouts yet. :-) OK he wouldn't make any top 10 list, but I saw a multiple-overtime Chargers/ Niners game when Montana and Fouts were QBs that was one of the most amazing shows of firepower I've ever ever seen. 500 yards each or something insane like that. I don't even remember who won -- what I remember was thinking they couldn't possibly top THAT, and then WHOA!!! Over and over and over.

One of the greatest plays I've ever seen was Young hitting Owens just as he got smacked by two Packers in the endzone - touchdown 49ers - in the playoffs. I seem to remember something weird about the previous play, involving Jerry Rice and a questionable fumble. OB?

I already told you: Kurt Warner, followed by Steve Young and then Brett Favre. Don't rely too heavily on any one stat, Child. Otherwise you may come to false conclusions. For instance: The best passer rating by far, this year, belongs to Craig Nall with the mind-boggling passer rating of 144.4 Shocked:wink:

Cjhsa, I remember that God-awful catch and do recall some controversy before it... but I can't quite remember just how the Refs cheated to win.

I remember that Young to Owens play too. After the 4th and 28 play last year, Young was on NFL Primetime and he said it was same weak coverage by Darren Sharper that lost them the game in 98.
