Montana has four. Young got only one. The two top QB's based on rating that ever played.

I hate to make this excuse, but it's a little known fact. Brett's career passer rating is dropped badly by his 0 for 5 passes he threw in Atlanta in 1991 during the few minutes that he played. His average includes a 0.0 for that year which isn't indicative of anything. If you were to remove that year (all 5 of those passes) from his average, his passer rating shoots up over Joe Montana's... trailing only Steve Young and Kurt Warner (and Kurt probably won't be there long )

Farve is also really good at throwing the ball to cornerbacks.

Only when he's leaning on his back leg. Watch him. When he's leaning back as he throws it's an automatic interception.

When you think Quaterback, you think one man...Joe Montana.

Being a quaterback, you have certain responsibilities. Leading your team, and staying cool under pressure are probably the biggest 2. Nobody was cooler under pressure, nobody led a team better, than Joe Montana.

Montana without Rice????

Personally, I think Young(Hall of Famer very soon) and Rice before I think Montana and Rice.

Well Bill got here first and grabbed all the Brett glory, but hell yeah. Brett.

<trying to figure out if Panz can be forgiven for forgetting about Super Bowl ring>

<aw what the heck he's a nice guy>

Brett's got the raw talent and athleticism and smarts and emotion. Fantastic combo.

If you want raw talent, athleticism, smarts and emotion, you should want Steve Young number 1. He was more talented, a better athlete, a hell of a lot smarter(you can easily see that in the two's career QB rating) than Brett.

Don't get me wrong, Brett isn't chopped liver, but he is no Steve Young.

Ya right kicky. Have you been listening to John Lennon's "Imagine" again?

If you adjust the 5 passes from 1991 out of Brett's passer rating, Child, you'll see he's second only to Steve Young in that category. And part of athleticism in football is durability... and Young's not even in the same school as Brett in that category.

(Oops, did you want that one Soz?)

Then take away the fact that Young played his entire carreer witht the greatest receiver ever to play the game... and he probably doesn't win the Passer rating either. Idea

Exactly, second only to Steve Young. Athleticism in football isn't durability, durability in football is durability and athleticism is athleticism. Steve Young could pull it down and run a lot better than Brett.

Some think Brett's ability to play hurt makes him tough, others think his ability to always get hurt makes him soft. I personally see him as tough, but that alone isn't enough for me to place him above Steve Young. Just typing that name gives me a sense of honor and pride. Steve Young, nothing but class in that man, Brett has drug addicted family.

Young never had a running back. Brett has had 3 different 1,000 yard rushers backing him.

I saw Young play once in person at the Stick. One thing you don't notice about him on TV is the fact that he bounces when he walks. Literally, his head would move up and down several inches as he walked on or off the field. He lifted himself up with his toes. Perhaps a giveaway as to how fast he was?

All Time Quarterbacks in history. fbaezer's short list:

NUMERO UNO: BRETT FAVRE
Number 2: Bart Starr
Number 3: Lynn Dyckey...

This is based in pure knowledge of the game. I'm not wearing a cheesehead.

Joe Montana? Don't you guys know the 80s sucked?

I actually kind of liked Warren Moon, and I also think Bob Griese had some mojo working, they say Johnny Unitas was unique, then there was Ron "Polish Rifle" Jaworski, hmm... and Dan Fouts, and Steve Young, and Doug Flutie -small but bright-, and Bert Jones and John Elway and Peyton Manning and Dan Marino and Terry Bradshaw and Fran Tarkenton, but... come to think about it, actually, yes, Don Majkowski is Number 4...
Hell, anyone but Joe Montana or Roger Staubach can be number 4.

Child, are you a San Fran fan, or do you really, without bias, believe it's Joe Montana? I think it's Joe, and I'm no 49ers fan.

I am indeed a Niner fan. If I were to give my honest opinion, I'd say Steve Young is the best quaterback I have ever watched play. You have to remember though, the first year I ever watched football, Montana was a Chief and Troy Aikman was thought of as the best in The NFL. My opinion isn't based on as much first hand expirence as you's guys have.

Although I didn't see Montana in his prime personally, I've seen tape of him and he was great, the best in fact.
