What Will You Buy If Your Candidate Wins? Loses?

I have a theory that the slow economic recovery and lack of consumer confidence has more to do with the political divide than 9/11, and possibly even the war in Iraq.

The argument has been, on and off, that the recession began with Clinton. A couple of times Bush has placed the recession start at March 2001, but quickly backs off of that. I would agree with the Fall 2000 date given that 50%+ consumers knew and understood the implications of a Bush win AND that Bush and Cheney were talking about a recession / economic slowdown at this time as a set up for the March 2001 recession. (MHO, they were scaring us then, too.)

Anyway, my question to you is whether or not you expect the economy and consumer confidence to improve if Kerry wins? Get worse if Bush wins? Stay the same? Or, do you not agree that party divide has been that influential? Does it have more to do with actual policy and therefore a lag is needed between election and implementation of policy?

What will you buy if Kerry wins?

What will you buy if Bush wins?

What will you buy if Kerry wins? I think some French champagne would be appropriate.

What will you buy if Bush wins? Guns. Lots of guns.

Reverse that for me, and make it a nice California wine.

If Bush is re-elected, I will buy an American flag and put a black mourning band around it.

Wasn't somebody going to hang the flag upside down if Bush won? I'm sure I read that on some other thread.

I considered doing the same thing myself after reading that post, but I dont know where one can buy american flags in Norway. I find the idea very entertaining though.

No, but it is sort of a related statement. I personally prefer that statement, it sort of speaks to Bush's rewrite of the symbolism of that flag.

Well, as odd as this sounds, the outcome of this election will have a bearing on my Christmas present to me.

Kerry: A Printer/Scanner/Copier

Bush: An XM or Sirius radio--so I can listen to Air America

I will not be significantly influenced in what I buy, whatever the outcome.

I will buy a 2005 Cadillac STS in January to replace my 2003, and a 2005 Chrysler Crossfire Convertible in March to replace my wife's 2002 PT Cruiser.

And we will take our semi-annual trips abroad in the Spring and Fall regardless.

Has anyone curtailed their spending due to the economic reports? If you have the same income, have you found yourself spending less due to fear? Due to the current president? Or, have you continued to spend as usual?

My take is that if Kerry wins, there will be a splurge factor, not just due to the holiday season, but because there will be a renewed feeling of hope.

(Larry, we are all impressed, I'm sure!)

Spending as usual. Why would anyone not, if they have the same disposable income?

Impressed? Just answering your question honestly, squinney. Very Happy

I don't base my spending decisions on the political climate.

Makes sense.

Kerry: a new "evil black rifle"
Bush: I might have to replenish used ammo, Mrs. Edwards did suggest that riots will occur if Bush wins
