@tsarstepan,
Oddly, our military falls into the socialist category.
Hopefully, we can educate people out of the knee jerk response to the word.
@Lash,
Admittedly, many of those (including that one) don't make sense to me as well. That doesn't fit at all. The author was pushing the definition a bit way to far there.
@tsarstepan,
In a nation that is mostly frontier, the 'conservative' notion of self reliance, shunning social programs, can work fine. But, when society is populated by city people, social programs are not merely desirable; they are a necessity. You can't live like Hugh Glass in downtown New York.
The military can legitimately be considered socialist because of the way it's constructed--funded by the many for public use (ostensibly).
I strongly prefer Democratic Socialism. 😉
@tsarstepan,
The public good is not socialism. I don't know why that always gets pulled out when these topics come up. Nationally run and tax payer funded are not socialism.
SOCIALIST PARTY USA
Quote:Socialism is not mere government ownership, a welfare state, or a repressive bureaucracy. Socialism is a new social and economic order in which workers and consumers control production and community residents control their neighborhoods, homes, and schools. The production of society is used for the benefit of all humanity, not for the private profit of a few. Socialism produces a constantly renewed future by not plundering the resources of the earth.

It is full fledged communism.
@McGentrix,
You are running scared, McG, a common trait of yours.
@revelette1,
Come on. That was actually pretty funny.
@tsarstepan,
Consider me excused, I guess.
@revelette1,
And as for whoever this person is?
Xochitl Hinojosa as the communications director for the DNC?! Has a tiny online footprint in respect to a Google search of her name?
I'll follow her on Twitter to see if she can properly energize the Dem base or not.
Interesting to watch the special election in Georgia today. I doubt a democrat will win, but if Jon Ossoff even gets close, I would consider it a win just because it is in Georgia.

Bernie tops progressive straw poll
By DAVID SIDERS 12/18/2018 05:07 AM EST
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) tops the first 2020 straw poll by the progressive political action committee Democracy for America by a wide margin, followed by former Vice President Joe Biden and Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas).
Sen. Elizabeth Warren, meanwhile, has seen her stock slide among the group‘s members, according to the poll, released Tuesday and obtained first by POLITICO. The Massachusetts Democrat, whose success in similar polling four years ago propelled DFA to help organize a massive but ultimately unsuccessful effort to draft her into the 2016 presidential campaign, was running fourth.

So far, so good.

Turns out I forgot to follow through with this reply. Consider it rectified. Just followed her verified account on Twitter.
