@Leadfoot,
It’s not remotely positive. He’s acting like a racist stereotype from a Warner Brothers’ cartoon made in the 1930s.

If it was positive he’d have had the support of African American posters on A2K. He doesn’t.

@izzythepush,
Can’t speak for layman, but I do not know the race of anyone here.
And I don’t care what race they are.

@Leadfoot,
I know you’re white. You let that be known when you said Layman’s digital blackface wasn’t offensive.

I’ve just been talking to another poster about Morris Dancers. I find their use of blackface offensive even though they claim it has nothing to do with race. It dates from when begging was illegal, and passing the hat around after a dance was seen as begging. The blackface was a way of pretending they did not know who they were giving money to if questioned by the authorities later on.

That’s what they told me when I spoke to one of them in Alresford. It sounds reasonable enough, but I still find it offensive.

@izzythepush,
Wow, never heard of them but that is an interesting story about how convoluted our societal fear of offending has gotten. Just on the face of it I wouldn’t care for that act though.

Reminds me of Clease in Faulty Towers.

Although I hate it when this thread gets so often and over pages derailed ... I add something as well.

The "Morisca" was originally a Moorish dance with many caprioles and strange air jumps. In the 15th century this dance spread from North Africa over southwest Europe to Germany. Morisca was the number one hit in the years around 1480 all over Europe.

The Munich City museum has some of the best figures of that time on show: The Morris Dancers

@Leadfoot,
The total arrogance of that mind set. Like PoC need jerks like Layman to carry the flag. If he was using it to point out, say cj's racist crap would be one thing but he kept up his offencive crap on issues that had nothing at all to with race. Blackface is blackface and it is always racist. Reducing people to stereotype is racist. How do you not get that????

Yes, Osso has been absent for a few years now.

I've always enjoyed reading Firefly's post, would be nice to see her back again too!

@jcboy,
A friend of mine usually meets OssoB and Diane once a year when she and her sister travel to town. Wish she could get OssoB to post again.
