Kinky's not gonna be Gov. Ah well. I bet there will be an entertaining novel or ten out of the experience. (And I'm not sure I really wanted him to be Gov -- pity if he helped the incumbent stay put though.)

Yarmuth up by 3%, 88% reporting!

4th-tier pickup opp. for the Dems!

Yarmuth won, 51% to 48%..

Moreover, in neighbouring, rural, House district 2 in Kentucky, Republican Ron Lewis faces an outside Dem challenger, Mike Weaver.

In the words of the Congressional Quarterly, "Republican Rep. Ron Lewis has dominated this strongly conservative-leaning west-central Kentucky district since he won it in a May 1994 special election [..]. Should Democratic state Rep. Mike Weaver score an upset, it could be a sign of a full-fledged wave that would sweep his party to a sizable majority."

In 2004, Lewis won 68% to 32%.

And yet, at the moment, with 43% of precincts reporting, Lewis is leading just 53% to 47%.

Thats not all. Also in Kentucky, House district 4 was rated as "Leans Republican" and "Leaning Republican" by CQ and NYT.

At the moment, the tally is 48% for incumbent Geoff Davis (REP) and 47% for Ken Lucas (DEM), with 54% of precincts reporting.

Deborah Pryce vs. Mary Jo Kilroy is the other Ohio one I'm watching closely -- Pryce is evil (always disliked her, and she's been barraging my mailbox with really odious negative ads about Kilroy). Right now it's 51/49 Kilroy.

Oh and slot machines seem to be "no" -- great. It was a really sneaky yucky campaign with pictures of smiling kiddies and seemingly unimpeachable credentials -- give scholarships, what could be nicer? Then you dig a little bit and find out it's about funneling money to some very specific people, that the scholarships have all kinds of conditions and strings to the point of rendering them useless, and the whole thing turns out to be quite sordid.

I feel great, but we've seen the dems in front and then crash last minute for 6 years... I just can't allow myself to fire up the bong just yet....

CNN projects Whitehouse 51% leading Chafee 49%

MSNBC has called the race for Whitehouse (Linc is probably the only Republican I'm sad to see go..)

You're tired? What time do you think it is here where OE and I live? Very Happy

Oooh, Webb/Allen looks superclose so far. (49/50, 79% reporting.)

Rjb, perhaps you know - I heard something about that if the margin of victory is smaller than x%, the law prescribes a recount? How messy is that going to be?

Most counterintuitive remark of the night so far: Howard Dean saying in a live interview, "Well, now that people are voting, I think I can say that no - we will not raise any taxes on the middle class".

Ehmm, yeah thats something you can say now, as opposed to, you know, before, during the campaign? Because what, it would have had such a bad effect? Question

"The Virginia race is now 'too close to call', as opposed to 'too early to call'", ha, that made me giggle for some reason..

Joe Scarborough pointing out that all the Dem gains mentioned so far have been in blue states - OK, fair point - but then continuing, purely on the basis of Crist's victory and that of one House Rep in Florida, that the "red states are still as red as" ... ever, or as two years ago, dont remember, one of the two.

Umm, bit premature, that. Will perhaps be nice to come back to that one, later. Kentucky isnt exactly a blue state, for example..

84% of the precincts in Virginia in, 49.6% for Allen (r) and 49.2% for Webb. The so called Marriage amendment passed, as I expected, in Virginia. But it passed by a larger margin than I thought. 58%-42%. That is bad for Webb.

I was just looking at that exact thing.

Lots of 'em passed. Stupid stupid stupid.

RJB, do you know the answer to nimh's question, how close it has to be to be a recount?

IF Hostettler is offed BUT NOT Chocola or Sodrel, pop your Tums.
IF Hostettler AND Chocola OR Sodrel, keep on your toes.
IF Hostettler AND Chocola AND Sodrel (AND Souder?!), turn off your BlackBerry and head to happy hour. Or something like that. I'll update on these Indiana races when word comes in.

Not just Hostettler and Chocola, but also Sodrel has been defeated.

So, turn off your BlackBerry and head to happy hour, or something Smile

Also the latest is that Webb is narrowly in the lead -- 1%, with 80-something percent of precincts reporting.

Ooh. Mine was from CNN too but with only 81% reporting so I guess less current.

Quote:
In Virginia, Democratic challenger Jim Webb holds a narrow lead over incumbent Sen. George Allen in early returns in the Senate race. Webb holds a 1-point lead with 81 percent of the precincts reporting.

Hum, I'm following CNN on TV, and trying to keep up with the details on the web... last info on TV was 89% of precincts reporting in Virginia..
