Strickland defeats Blackwell in Ohio, say MSNBC and CNN.

Predictable, but still worth a definite cheer.

Another shocker result: Katherine Harris defeated! Laughing

Nice: Deval Patrick elected Governor of Mass. - that was still an open question just a few months ago.

And Rendell wins against Swann as Pa. Governor - no surprise either, but still worth a note.

Pennsylvania called for Casey against Santorum, said MSNBC a bit ago.

Fox News called Democrat Brad Ellsworth the winner over John Hostettler in Indiana.

Neither a surprise... but for some reason I'm starting to feel pretty good about tonight!

I find you sig line mildly disturbing, nimh. For some reason, I always read it as the last sentence of every one of your posts rather than as a sig line...

Heeeeyy, check this out.

Florida, House district 8: Incumbent Republican Rep. Ric Keller vs Democratic challenger Charlie Stuart.

The district was rated "Safe Republican" by the NYT, and "Republican Favored" by the Congressional Quarterly. In 2004 Keller won 61% to 39%.

But with 99% of the votes in, it's 52% for Keller and 48% for Stuart.

48% for the Dem challenger, whom I'd never even seen anything reported about, in a race marked as "Safe Republican"?!

Wowee.

More expectedly, Klobuchar and Stabenow elected as Dems in the Senate... so much for the last-minute posturing on the part of the Republicans about Michigan having come into play at the last moment..

Hey, where you all hanging out at?

Maryland Senate called for Cardin! That was the one single Dem Senate seat I was afraid the Republicans might still snatch - much more so than the Menendez one.

Its also a state where the new practice of anonymous, hostile robocalling - calling people repeatedly and at weird times of the night while creating the impression that its the Dems calling - peaked, and just for that alone the Reps deserved to lose.

Keep an eye on these races:

TNR The Plank, this afternoon, on Indiana House races

Blogger there reviews four races, IN-2, 3, 8 and 9, and concludes:

Quote:
In other words ...

IF Hostettler is offed BUT NOT Chocola or Sodrel, pop your Tums.
IF Hostettler AND Chocola OR Sodrel, keep on your toes.
IF Hostettler AND Chocola AND Sodrel (AND Souder?!), turn off your BlackBerry and head to happy hour. Or something like that. I'll update on these Indiana races when word comes in.

OK, so this is the current state of it:

U.S. House - District 3
Mark Souder (REP)* 77,299 55%
Thomas Hayhurst (DEM) 64,066 45%
87% of precincts reporting

U.S. House - District 2
Joe Donnelly (DEM) 82,666 53%
Chris Chocola (REP)* 73,830 47%
83% of precincts reporting

U.S. House - District 9
Baron Hill (DEM) 70,878 49%
Mike Sodrel (REP)* 68,588 47%
66% of precincts reporting

U.S. House - District 8
Brad Ellsworth (DEM) 74,688 62%
John Hostettler (REP)* 45,077 38%
56% of precincts reporting

So for now, staying on our toes...

Presumably everyone's getting drunk at blatham's place, whereas the only people actually following this election are people up late on the other side of the Atlantic....

CNN projects Whitehouse 51% leading Chafee 49%

I'm here!

I promised E.G. that I wouldn't spend the whole night in front of the computer, which I so could do, just began my time (won't be long).

And the news is gooooooood!

Very happy about Brown vs. DeWine. And Santorum!!! Out! Haven't checked on Webb/ Allen yet (also haven't read back from this page yet...)

I am here, nimh, but am, like most American voters, a bit exhausted.

Things going well for the Dems in the Senate. Last call a few minutes ago in Virginia with 73% of precincts reporting, Allen (r) is at 50.48% and Webb (d) is at 48.37%. A lot of Richmond still to report. I am cautiously optomistic.

Oooh, Webb/Allen looks superclose so far. (49/50, 79% reporting.)

Oh hi RJB, we're reporting on the same thing, my numbers are from CNN (thanks for the pointer, Cycloptichorn...)
